Banging the drum Midlifers for our next Adventure…
This time we are heading to Costa Rica, to re-boot the adventurous, fascinate the environmentalist, and satisfy the conservationist.

This sun-drenched corner of Central America holds over 5% of the world’s biodiversity, boasting more national parks per square metre than any other country in the world and home to some of the most important nesting sites for endangered turtles. Geographically, it has a foot in both the Caribbean and Pacific oceans and a string of active volcanoes and cloud forests running through its core. A sensation, and the reason why it’s so popular right now, especially with the gappers …

Now it’s our turn to explore the contrasting and spectacular terrain where we will swim in mineral rich volcanic hot springs, zip wire across the cloud forest, hike to hidden waterfalls and rest up in the ‘oh so hip’ town of Santa Teresa. However, what is particularly significant to us in Costa Rica is the community drive to preserve their unique environment. Inspirational projects are abundant, and we have interwoven our favourite turtle conservation initiative into your adventure so you can see and feel this first hand.

Four different locations - four different vibes, so pack your hiking shoes, kaftans, and swimmers.

This is Costa Rica - Leap style - turtles, sloths and monkeys...we’re coming.

First, next, now…
Swipe through to see the amazing progress of the community vegetable garden our Sri Lankan MidLifers got started back in January. Everything has come along so quickly, it’s hard to believe!
The students have been given the responsibility of caring for certain beds in the veg patch which has led to real competition between groups and has resulted in a huge growth spurt of vegetables! Cabbage and chillis have already been harvested and the tomatoes aren’t far behind…

Next dates for Sri Lanka MidLife are January and April 2025. Get in touch to find out more.

Let’s talk about “curry and cocktails” …yes the midlifer trips are centered around challenge and contribution … but curries and cocktails are on the agenda to celebrate our hard work !
FYI - the food in Sri Lanka is utterly delicious and we ate like queens …

And so our last day arrived … which involved a very start for Polly and Jen who hiked up the mountain for sun rise, a long and wiggly bus ride back to Colombo, a few cocktails at the splendid Galle Face Hotel, a random bag pipe moment AND an upgrade for me into the Emperors Suite … check out stories before a fabulous last night at the famous Paradise Cafe.

Challenge accepted - the trek up to reach Ella’s rock …

3 hours up and I mean straight up with a pit stop at mountain side monestry who couldn’t quite understand why 10 midlifers were making themselves a cup of tea and where they had come from … not sure just blame them as we also thought it was a rather strange…

Don’t like to brag - but we made it in record time and didn’t complain about the leeches, sweat and toil…

As we collapse on the sofa, contemplating a dire need to increase our HRT to prevent the tree from being torched … I try to remain calm and listen to my friend’s mantra who encourages me to ‘lean into Midlife and do more of what gives more joy”
So what does give one joy? Family, friends, yes whole heartedly but I have to admit what has given me most joy over the last few years has been the Midlife adventures (no offence family - I love a family holiday ) but these are something else...they take me out of my comfort zone, they pop me into a team of like-minded ladies who love to chat (about everything), and they remind me of my 18 year old self.

Pop me in a tuk tuk and my wrinkles simple evaporate. They are humbling, rejuvenating, and thrilling as we laugh, sweat, dig turtle nests, build bricks, plant seeds, swim with whale sharks, and reach Machu Picchu.

And the best bit of all...

No admin is required, and this is priceless...once you arrive in Heathrow you are free from making any decisions apart from what you might like to eat and drink - down tools and rest up, the logistics are in someones else’s hands. No one will ask you when are you next filling up the fridge, what’s for supper and did you send that email. This is your time.

And so there it is, more joy, more Midlife trips it must be, on which you are welcome. Let’s head off to remind ourselves that we still rock….

Happy New year to all you fellow Midlifers. Together, let’s take our HRT on a tuk tuk ride to remember.

And our final night came all too soon …
Back in Phnom Penh - to cotton sheets, air conditioning and a cocktail or two…

A special night to celebrate the huge adventure shared with a glorious team of kindred spirits.

Thank you team for your joy, humour and compassion as we explored and realigned our chakras together ###

Final phase in Cambodia … which was all about being calm at the beach on Koh Rong Sanloem Island …

All went according to plan (kind of 😉) until the gods whipped up a massive storm to test our meditative state of mind and forced us to take a tractor through the jungle to find the calm side at lazy beach and battle the waves to get us home…

Calm it was not - but an adventure for sure !

Well done team for keeping the joy going. You are all awesome.

Sunrise at Angkor Wat.
Big day for us MIdlifers which started at 4.00am … all aboard our fleet of tuk tuks in the tropical rain heading north to reach the largest religious complex in the world.
Simply put it is stunning and needs to be on everyone bucket list. Built in the 13th and 14th century. Every inch is carved with meaning and history, aligned with the stars.

Schools back and it's time to regroup and plan an adventure for oneself...

Introducing our new feel good Midlifer to Sri Lanka…

think 'Eat, Pray, Love' vibes set in two stunning and contrasting locations in Southern Sri Lanka. 2 phases, multiple experiences and serious comfort !

The first phase will be spent at a tranquil tea plantation, only a stone’s throw away from some of the hippest surf beaches before exploring the magnificent Central Highlands for phase two.

Throughout your 8-day adventure you will get stuck into a mix of experiences carefully chosen to contribute to the "feel good factor" as you make an impact at the women's empowerment charity, and rejuvenate your body and soul through yoga, surfing and the bite-sized challenge of hiking up Ella's Peak.

This adventure has been put together in partnership with our lovely friends, Charlie and Richard Pembroke, who built the luxury Tekanda Lodge, your base for phase one. Charlie is the power house behind the women’s empowerment charity called Gamata Atak meaning ‘A Hand to the Village’ - the principal aim being to bridge the rural-urban skills divide in Sri Lanka. Your contribution will be inspiring for everyone involved.

Phase 2 of our Jordan midlife adventure took us to Wadi Rum - which I have to say was utterly magical and another ta dah moment, as we embraced our inner Lawrence of Arabia.

So many ways to explore this huge Wadi and so many camps to choose from, over 100 infact. To get it right is critical - don’t be fooled by the word “luxury” in the desert. Thankfully our man on the ground read the room perfectly :) and nailed our desert experience - as we headed off grid to a private little corner of desert Beauty. Forever grateful to see it this way …

Behind every Midlifer is an inspirational NGO who The Leap supports and champions. In this case it is Rachel Riggio, who founded the life-changing Red Road Foundation in rural Kampot in 2015.

The Red Road Foundation aims to enhance the lives of local children - providing opportunities through education and skill development. Rachel relies heavily on volunteers to deliver her goals, so she is delighted to host a team of Midlifers.

Rachel will lead the adventure, giving everyone an insider, off-grid experience. She is an amazing and inspirational woman.

PERU IS BACK ON -all is calm and steady out there :)

Having experienced this Midlifer last year, I can honestly say that this is an amazing, humbling, and exciting adventure. It is indeed a physical and mental challenge but so rewarding as you head off the tourist trail to trek through hidden valleys, stay with local families, feast on delicious food, and marvel at vistas that take your breath away. Best thing I have ever done. Milly x" just do it …

ITINERARY OVERVIEW
It's a journey of two parts - the first being the project, ruins, and acclimatisation phase. Here you will live in the pretty little town of Calca, which sweeps along the Urubamba River, and surrounded by dramatic mountains. Everyone lives together with a gorgeous local family to fully embrace the culture whilst helping our Peruvian partners with their community projects, exploring Inca ruins, and completing local hikes so you are fully acclimatised for phase two.

Part two, is of course, the 4 day bespoke trek to Machu Picchu, carefully crafted by our NGO partners using their local knowledge, guides and community elder friends. Through their contacts you will access magical mountain valleys, mystical glacial lakes, and generous Andean farming families tucked away from tourists' eyes. I promise this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience which will reboot and invigorate.

The last night will be spent in the stunning city of Cusco, where you will all celebrate your achievements in an oh-so chic style hotel/hostel, head out for a delicious supper, and explore all the architectural treasures and a market or two.

Ok midlifers ….Lets talk about Cambodia - our new adventure for 2023. Trying something a little different ...adding more “calm” then challenge...this is how it rolls:

This new 10 day adventure in Cambodia combines 3 contrasting phases of culture, contribution, and rejuvenation, in three different locations.
Starting in Siem Reap at Angkor Wat, ticking off a bucket list moment, and visiting a elephant rehabilitation centre, before flying down to Kampot to meet the wonderful characters at the Red Road Foundation and contribute to their life-changing social enterprises. In Kampot we will live at a pretty riverside eco-lodge, surrounded by pepper fields and wildlife - a peaceful retreat after a hard day volunteering.

Our final phase will be one of rejuvenation, to reboot the soul on a tropical island. Yes, think crystal clear water, squeaky white sand, and amazing snorkeling coupled with meditation and daily yoga sessions.

Rachel Riggio, founder of the RRF will lead the adventure, giving everyone an insider, off-grid, gritty experience. She is an amazing and inspirational women, responsible for creating a safe environment for rural children to learn English.

Cambodia
Alice has just returned from her recce to Cambodia to create the new Midlife adventure for 2023 which combines three contrasting phases of culture, contribution, and rejuvenation. Led by the inspirational Rachel Riggio, the Founder of The Red Road Foundation, which is where you'll be rolling up your sleeves to help with her social enterprises.

Your culture phase starts in Siem Reap where you will explore the famous and magical Angkor Wat, ticking off this bucket list experience as well as haggling in local markets, and visiting a elephant rehabilitation centre, before flying down to Phnom Penh to visit the Killing fields and the Royal Place.

Your final phase will be one of rejuvenation to reboot the soul on a remote tropical island. Yes, think crystal clear water, squeaky white sand and amazing snorkelling, coupled with meditation and daily yoga sessions.

As with all Midlife adventures, Rachel will introduce you to her favourite places, giving you an insider, off-grid experience.
