At a glance you might think there’s a gaggle of winter geese ruffling the surface of the Loch. Stop and look and instead you’ll see and hear a giggle of hardy winter swimmers enjoying the calm still water of Loch Insh. At only 7.1° no one is in for more than a few minutes but it’s long enough to feel alive and to embrace the beauty of the early autumn morning. Only a 10 minute drive away from Aonach, it’s one of the many lovely wild swimming locations on the doorstep. A copy of the book 'Swimming Wild Scotland' by Alice Goodridge of SwimWild is on the bookshelf in the cottage to help inspire your next dipping spot.

A real treat to see these Konik ponies on the Invertromie Meadows today. They are used for conservation grazing and were very friendly! Just a short walk away from Aonach.

Dark nights mean a whole new feel to our bike rides at this time of year. Familiar routes feel completely different, and the experience of riding through a silent forest in the dark is just awesome!

We're making the most of these calm autumn days to get out and swim in some of our beautiful local lochs. Being able to swim next to a ruined castle on an island is very special.

The RSPB viewpoint at Invertromie is a great vantage point looking out over the Insh Marshes towards Kingussie and the Monadhliath. We saw deer, swans, a jay and a robin on our visit.

The Moray Coast is easily reached in around 90 minutes from Aonach if you feel like heading out of the mountains for a day. There are sandy and rocky beaches, surfing, some lovely walking & cycling routes, and a good chance of spotting dolphins from the coast 🐬
