Professor Robin Dunbar of Oxford University claims that “talking with mates” on a daily basis is good but that men need to meet up with their friends at least twice a week and “do stuff” in order to be truly healthy.

He recommends activities like going to a pub for a beer or playing football or rugby.

According to Dunbar, men who maintain social groups are healthier and recover from illness more quickly.

“Bonds can be formed through a range of activities from team sports to male banter - or simply having a pint with your pals on a Friday night. However, the key to maintaining strong friendships is to meet up twice a week and do stuff with the four people closest to you,” Dunbar said.
