"We had an excellent time touring Lake Constance from start to finish.

Freedom Treks were very helpful and informative prior to the holiday, and the information received allowed us to prepare well for it.

The route was wonderful; and just what we were expecting from the website descriptions - as long as we kept the lake in sight, we never went far wrong!

The hotel accommodation on the whole was excellent - very varied, interesting and quirky hotels where we were always made to feel welcome. Substantial continental breakfasts offered every morning to set us up for the day.

We would highly recommend the Lake Constance Tour."

Lake Constance is one of our most popular destinations and we love looking at the photos of the shimmering lake and quirky towns our customers take on their tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Thank you for your review and wonderful photos, Caroline!

What's it like to cycle the Andalucia Bike Tour? Freedom Trekker Brian has recently returned from his trip to Spain and below is his verdict:

"Our trip to Andalucía was superb, and the team at Freedom Treks were outstanding from the very initial stages of our tentative enquiries through to departure.

Nick Thompson (from Freedom Treks) really stood out with his regular and concise updates, keeping us informed.

We decided to add additional days either side of the trip, Malaga, and Seville - a great decision and highly recommended.

We completed 5 days of cycling and a total of 220 km. Each day follows contrasting routes and landscapes, with the majority passing through small villages to grab some refreshments. The routes are a combination of main roads, cycle paths and gravelled paths. Some cheeky hills, good well-maintained flat roads and fast downhills.

In summary, a great holiday and a fantastic way to explore this beautiful country. The people are friendly and helpful, but English is limited.

We will book again, and I would highly recommend Freedom Treks, you don't need to be a Tour de France cyclist - trust me on this one."

Thank you for the detailed 5* review and photos, Brian! We're glad you had a nice cycle through southern Spain!

"The trip was easy to plan, the materials and route maps were detailed and complete, the responsiveness of the local crew was quick and timely. I would use Freedom Treks for our next adventure."

The e-bikes, Fay was using make this tour along the Danube an absolute breeze, especially as most of the paths are flat and well-maintained.

We look forward to planning your next cycling trip, Fay! Thank you for the cycling snaps and review.

"Everything about the tour was perfect"

We're glad you enjoyed your time in Croatia, Matthew! The views look incredible.

Our team love this tour because you'll start and finish in historic UNESCO cities with amazing islands along the way.

You'll also stop at the beautiful Mljet Island before heading to the vineyards of the island of Lastovo and onto Korcula, the birthplace of Marco Polo!

Thank you for your review and excellent pictures, Matthew.

Treat yourself to a dose of late-summer sun this September, when the crowds have departed and the temperatures are just right for cycling and swimming in the great outdoors.

Our favourite month of the year to cycle in Europe, you can expect plenty of sunshine but cooler weather than the heart of summer - typically between 15 and 23°C.

And if it does get a bit hot, September is when the seas, lakes and rivers are at their warmest. Perfect for a refreshing daily dip!

Travelling outside of peak season, you’ll not only avoid the summer rush. You’ll also enjoy lower prices on tours and flights - especially if you travel later in the month.

You have an abundance of choice with 163 tours available to book in September. But to get you on the right path, we’ve carefully chosen seven of the best for this time of year.

Which Freedom Treks tour offers the most challenging cycling?

With winding mountain roads, demanding coastal climbs and a stunning route covering nearly 300 miles (474 km), Highlights of Albania is a strong contender.

Last month, Darryl and Nick from the Freedom Treks team flew to Albania to put the tour (and themselves) to the test.

Over ten glorious days in and out of the saddle, the two of them were guided through three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, past soaring peaks and glistening Albanian beaches. Plus, they had the satisfaction of conquering quite literally breathtaking ascents!

Find out if the Highlights of Albania Guided Bike Tour offers the most challenging cycling in the Freedom Treks programme here: https://www.freedomtreks.co.uk/blog/trip-report-is-highlights-of-albania-the-most-challenging-tour-freedom-treks-has-to-offer

"Our Umbrian trip was the best cycling trip we have done.

The organization was excellent, the hotel's first rate and the routes spectacular. Being able to use new, carbon gravel bikes was a perfect add-on and I would encourage you to make that option available on your other trips. Finally, Petra and Paulo with your tour partner were outstanding. We'll be booking the next trip with Freedom Treks."

Reviews like this certainly give the Freedom Treks team that Friday feeling!

Thank you for your feedback and holiday snaps, Doug! We look forward to organising your next cycling adventure.

We couldn't agree more! If you are contemplating Spain's Conquistadors & Paradors Bike Tour, we recommend late spring and early summer as the ideal time to pedal through Spain's oak forests, rugged farmland and colourful meadows because of the milder temperatures.

Year after year, the Danube treats our customers and team to fantastic cycling along gentle, well-paved cycle paths which follow the shimmering blue river through tranquil countryside and historic cities.

Boat & Bike is by far the most popular way to tour the region, with routes from Passau in Germany to Vienna in Austria, Budapest in Hungary or even the Iron Gates on the Serbia/Romania border.

With limited departures, these tours are in high demand and peak dates often sell out over a year in advance. Which is why we’re happy to announce that three of our Danube Boat & Bike Tours are now on sale for 2025!

What makes these tours so popular? Excellent service on board stylish, deluxe riverboats, hearty and delicious food with all meals included, the flexibility of self-guided cycling with the support of an onboard guide, the camaraderie of fellow cyclists and, of course, the fascinating history and beautiful scenery of the area.

That's a wrap for Darryl, Nick and Ryan who have completed the Highlights of Albania Bike Tour!

The blue skies, pleasant temperatures and outstanding scenery were a constant throughout and their final two days weren't any different.

Darryl got in touch to let us know how they spent day nine and ten:

"Day nine and the final ride was from Himarë to Vlore. In My opinion, the tour saved the best cycling for last!

The most challenging cycle day yet with a 1000m climb through Llogara National Park. It was tough in the heat but all made worth it by the views at the top.

Our lunch stop was just on the other side of the peak, we had worked up quite an appetite by the time we reached the restaurant.

We arrived at Hotel Coral early in the afternoon giving us plenty of time to make use of its pool and private beach. We spent the afternoon swimming, clinking glasses in celebration and reminiscing about the incredible journey we'd been on.

In the evening, we enjoyed our final dinner with the group, our guide Erlis and support driver Tani. The food was delicious, the sunset was spectacular and the company was first class.

The next day started with a private transfer early in the morning to Tirana International Airport where we met our flight back to the U.K.

Myself, Nick and Ryan are all sad to be leaving, but we’ve had an amazing ten days.

If you're a confident cyclist, this tour has to be on your bucket list!"

Day 8 in Albania for Darryl, Nick and Ryan, lots of coastal cycling from Sarandë to Himarë. With the sun shining down, it shows the advantages of travelling in April before the temperatures make the climbs even tougher!

Here’s Darryl on their penultimate day:

“Another challenging day in the saddle but the views make it all worth it. We started the day after breakfast by climbing steeply out of Sarandë. A shorter day but still plenty of hills.

We got to Himarë early which meant we could make most of the beach right outside the hotel and have a dip in the inviting waters of the Albanian Riviera. After another lovely dinner at the hotel with the group, we got to sleep anticipating the long climb tomorrow.”

Another day, another UNESCO World Heritage site for our team cycling the Highlights of Albania Tour!

Here's what they got up to on day seven:

"We began the day with a short transfer to the top of Muzina Pass. The ride started with some exciting portions of downhill cycling.

Another longer day in the saddle, but the undulating terrain meant the riding was pleasant and not too much of a challenge. The big hills come tomorrow!

In the afternoon, we took a rustic cable ferry over to Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the country's most important archaeological treasures.

After lunch and a captivating guided tour of Butrint, we made our way along the coast, heading north towards Sarande. The island of Corfu was always in view as we swapped the mountain scenery for a coastal backdrop.

The weather has been incredible and having a quick dip in the ocean was the perfect way to cool down once we had reached the coast.

We capped the evening off with a delightful dinner overlooking a bright orange sky as the sun went down."

Day eight presents a challenge with plenty of steep hills for the teams to tackle as they make their way to Himarë!

We'll provide an update tomorrow on how the team got on with one of the most challenging days on the tour.

An update from team Albania on how they spent their sixth day of cycling the Highlight of Albania Tour!

"This morning we pedalled through Këlcyrë Gorge and the views were stunning. The turquoise colour of the water was nothing like any of us had seen before. We also had mountain goats accompanying us along the roadside.

The scenery was so impressive we had to stop at a nearby hotel overlooking the gorge to take it all in.

Once in Gjirokastër, we had a fascinating guided tour of the castle and the Skenduli House, an Ottoman-era House in Gjirokaster's old town which was built in the 1700s.

We ended the night as a group at KODRA, a restaurant with spectacular views over the city. A delicious dinner was followed by a couple of drinks before we got some well-earned rest."

Darryl, Nick and Ryan are off to another UNESCO World Heritage site tomorrow as they visit Butrint!

Darryl, Nick and Ryan are now more than halfway through the Highlights of Albania Tour as they finished day five yesterday - doesn't time fly when you're having fun!

Darryl checked in with us back in the UK to fill us in on what the group had been up to. Here's what he had to say:

"We began yesterday with a climb from Sotirë Farm followed by a fun coast 17km downhill. Along this stretch of road, we encountered some of the most breathtaking views of the tour (so far). The mountains and landscape were epic! This was my favourite ride of the week yet.

We checked in at our guesthouse that afternoon. The Benja Thermal Baths were a short 5km ride away from our accommodation. So as a group, we rode to the springs for an afternoon of ultimate relaxation. It was the perfect way to finish a long day of riding.

A ride to the hillside UNESCO town of Gjirokaster is the plan for day six and although the cycling is challenging, we're all itching to get back on the saddle for more spectacular riding."

More updates from the trio's ride through Kelcyra Gorge to Gjirokaster are to follow!

An update From, Darryl, Nick and Ryan as they finished their fourth day on the Highlights of Albania tour!

Here's Darryl's take on the challenging day riding from Korcë to Sotirë:

"We knew we were in for a big day in the saddle today with plenty of hills. We stopped at Ersekë, the highest city in Albania at about 1000m above sea level for a lovely lunch and a much-needed break!

There were only a few more hills to overcome as we got back on the bikes after lunch.

The views were spectacular throughout the day and we finished up at Sotirë Farm, where we were staying for the night.

It was a special afternoon and evening, as the farm worker let us hold baby goats and walk the horses. One of our new cycling friends even went ba****ck riding. We absolutely love it here!"

Next up for the trio is a ride to Benje first thing tomorrow morning!

Stay tuned for more updates.

In case you missed it, Darryl and Nick from the Freedom Treks team are currently taking on the Highlights of Albania Tour!

Day three is when the cycling kicks up a gear and here's how they got on:

"We left Lake Ohrid and took on some of the first hills of the tour. The ride takes us through quaint villages and farmland. It wasn't long into the journey before stunning mountain scenery became our backdrop for the day. Although the sun was shining and the temperatures were pleasant in the valley, we could spot snowcapped mountains in the distance.

We made sure to have a coffee break and lunch mid-way through our journey to Korcë, which nicely broke up the ride.

Once we made it to the city, we checked in at our hotel and after a couple of hours of relaxing, we went on a guided city tour with our guide Erlis. He offered a fascinating insight into the history of Albania and the difficulties the country has faced in the past. Nowadays Korcë has a friendly, vibrant feel to it as the local children and dogs provided us with a warm welcome!

Afterwards, we grabbed a drink as a group at the Old Bazaar and then headed to dinner. The mezze-style dinner at Vila Cofiel was fantastic!

The four climbs to overcome tomorrow meant getting a good night's sleep and preparing for the next day.

The Freedom Treks team have touched down in Albania!

Operations Coordinator Darryl, Sales Consultant Nick and his partner Ryan are taking on what's arguably the most challenging Freedom Treks tour - The Highlights of Albania Tour.

Here's an update from Darryl on the first two days of their epic adventure:

"Following an evening arrival into Albania, we hopped in a taxi from the airport straight into the heart of Tirana. The capital is a wonderful city and incredibly vibrant at night. We would have loved to stay out later exploring more of the city, but after dinner, we made the sensible decision to rest up in preparation for our first day of cycling.

We started the day with a group breakfast and met our friendly guide. Once we'd fueled up for the morning, it was time for the two hour transfer to Lake Ohrid on the Macedonian border.

We spent the rest of the afternoon pedaling along the shimmering shoreline towards Tushemisht where our hotel was located. We stopped off for lunch at our hotel before continuing to pedal to North Macedonia where we visited the monastery of St Naum.

The ride was incredibly picturesque and relaxing. It was the perfect way to ease us into the challenging adventure that lays ahead (only up from here, literally!)"

Next up for the trio is a challenging climb to the cultural capital of Albania, Korcë.

Stay tuned for more updates from Darryl and Nick over the next week!
