Found this picture of me taken last week by Yorkshire Post photographer Jonathan Gawthorpe on the online version of the paper. Maybe a little feature will be appearing on Saturday!

It may look like the weather wasn’t great but the clouds cleared and we had gorgeous blue skies for today’s group - up from London on a day trip which is very doable and a great way to see a bit more of England if you’re short on time.

Don't miss Tanya's next medieval embroidery workshop on 22 June! From 10am to 4pm, you will learn the techniques of laid and couched works, as used in the Bayeux tapestry, to create your own embroidered medieval beastie using naturally dyed wool threads. This class is suitable for all levels!

To sign up, email [email protected] and you can pay £80 on the day. Alternatively, you can buy tickets on Eventbrite (this price includes the booking fee): https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/medieval-embroidery-one-day-workshops-tickets-882045801737.

[Image description: The photo is taken outside on a sunny day in the Ilkley Manor House courtyard, following the medieval fashion show hosted by Tanya Bentham. She is standing in the middle of the group, with five people on either side of her. Each person is dressed as a poor or rich individual from different periods, ranging from Anglo-Saxon to 16th-century styles. They are all wearing headwear, including hats, bonnets, hennins, headscarves, and even a crown. All the clothes and accessories were made by Tanya.]

The latest blog on our website by Stephen Sutcliffe looks at Yorkshire's other literary village, Ampleforth.

In 1970, local authors James Herriot (All Creatures Great and Small) and Nicholas Rhea (Heartbeat) met in the White Swan Pub and decided to keep plugging away on their typewriters in the hope they might one day get published!

Find out more about Yorkshire’s other literary village and its association with Julian Fellowes, Alf Wight and Nicholas Rhea

My recent guests were luck enough to be staying in The Devonshire Arms in Grassington whilst filming of series 5 of All Creatures Great & Small was taking place in May. Here is a picture they sent of watching Mrs Hall and the filming in Darrowby from their bedroom window. Not the tape to give the windows a 1940's feel! Our next exhibition is... Restoration: A Townhouse Reborn 🥳

Discover the remarkable story of how Fairfax House was brought back to life, as we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of its visionary restoration.

40 years ago, Fairfax House sat unloved and forgotten. Its once-legendary splendour as one of the finest 18th-century townhouses was hidden underneath thick layers of dust and paint.

The future of the building was uncertain, until York Civic Trust invested over £2,000,000 in today's money in a groundbreaking transformation that required incredible artistry, ingenuity and resilience.

This exhibition tells the history of Fairfax House as you've never seen it before. Journeying through the museum you’ll step back in time and witness how the house changed from a damp and decaying shell to the magnificent architectural gem you see today.

You will learn more about what it takes to conserve and restore a historic house, the challenges and surprises, with each room offering a fascinating and immersive snapshot in time. You’ll hear the stories of the craftsmen, artists, and architects intimately involved in its restoration to discover how this townhouse went from luxurious residence to an almost derelict ruin - and then back again.

The exhibition opens on 22nd June.
