My bag is packed as tomorrow I am heading off the British Virgin Islands for a fabulous tour of some ultra-luxury properties, courtesy of the BVI Tourist Board. I am lucky to have visited the BVI a few times before, but always sailing, so whilst I know the anchorages and rum bars well (ehem!), I am not so au fait with the hotels, resorts and restaurants.

Properties I am due to visit include:
▪️ Long Bay Beach Resort
▪️ Necker Island
▪️ Branson Estate
▪️ Oil Nut Bay
▪️ Rosewood Little Dix Bay
▪️ CocoMaya
▪️ Scrub Island Resort, Spa and Marina
▪️ Marina Cay

Furthermore, on the way back we have a few hours transit in Antigua and will be taking the opportunity to visit the world renowned Jumby Bay, chosen holiday spot for many a celebrity and high roller.

I am really looking forward to learning more about land based holidays in the BVI, as whilst the sailing is fabulous, I know that is not for everyone and the islands offer so much more on land too.

Any questions about the properties mentioned (or anything else about the BVI or Antigua), please fire away...

For me, travel is about immersing myself in the local culture, spending time with locals, learning about their way of life and enjoying the local cuisine.

I am therefore excited that we have recently teamed up with ResiRest, a fabulous organisation accredited by the World Fair trade Organisation, connecting travellers and local communities to join together for unique dining experiences.

Share an authentic home-cooked meal in stunning destinations such as Cambodia, Colombia, Gambia, India, Bali, Vietnam and Thailand, creating lasting memories whilst supporting local communities. These authentic experiences not only bring you closer to the culture but also support and uplift the community.

The Galapagos, Amazon Rainforest and Machu Picchu, all iconic sights and often found on any travellers ‘to see’ list.

I have just booked an amazing trip for a lovely couple, starting in Ecuador, a 7 night cruise around the Galapagos, stays in Lima and Cuzco, exploration of the Amazon Rainforest, walking the Mini-Inca Trail and tour of Machu Piccu.

My clients are well travelled and usually research and book all their own trips. However, for this adventure they were overwhelmed with all the options, not having found an off the shelf itinerary to suit their requirements, bamboozled by all the required visitor permits and slightly nervous pulling together so many bucketlist destinations to make the most of their time away.

So over to me… and what a fabulous itinerary I have booked for them (even if I do say so myself!)!

First response ‘’The itinerary sounds exciting.’’ … one minor tweak later (extending their time in the Galapagos) … ‘’The itinerary looks awesome! We want to go ahead.’’

Welcome to June

In my series ‘Where to go in…’ and with people booking on average 6-7 months in advance, herewith inspiration for travel in DECEMBER:

🎄 Mulled wine, gingerbread and festive twinkling lights, Germany is one of the best countries for fabulous Christmas cheer. With markets all over the country, there’s something for everyone, from the larger markets of Cologne, Munich and Frankfurt to the historic Leipzig, dating back to 1458, quirky Frauenchiemsee, only accessible by boat and picturesque Ravenna Gorge, located at the base of a 130ft high railway viaduct in Germany’s Black Forest.

🗻 Japan’s second largest island, hit the slopes of Hokkaido, known for fabulous powder, feast on delicious seafood, experience fascinating culture, relax in magical outdoor thermal onsens, discover famous whisky distilleries and admire the awesome views from Mount Hakodate.

🦥 Discover the pura vida spirit of Costa Rica, from its stunning beaches to lush rainforests, surfing to sloaths and chillaxing to adventure. Sustainability is a way of life in Costa Rica and although only a small territory, the country makes up around 6% of the earth’s biodiversity.

Chatting to a Kiwi friend recently, she was reminding me how lucky we are to be living in Europe, with so many fabulous and diverse cities just a stone’s throw away. In just a couple of hours (or less in some cases!) one could be…

🇧🇪 wandering the picturesque cobbled streets of Bruges.
🇳🇴 following in the footsteps of Vikings in Stavanger.
🇭🇷 exploring the royal palaces of Split.
🇩🇰 experiencing one of the World’s oldest theme parks, Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen.
🇮🇪 enjoying a pint of the black stuff in Cork.
🇵🇹 visiting the worlds oldest bookstore in Lisbon.
🇮🇸 snorkelling between two tectonic plates near Reykjavik.
🇨🇿 shopping for Christmas presents in Staromestske namesti, Pragues 12th century town square.

… no matter the time of year, if you fancy a mini-break with a difference, get in touch and prepared to be wowed!

Welcome to May

In my series ‘Where to go in…’ and with people booking on average 6-7 months in advance, herewith inspiration for travel in NOVEMBER:

🗻 Visit Nepal for spectacular scenery, rich history and vibrant culture. Home to 10 of the world's 14 highest mountains, this is a fabulous place for hiking.

🏖 Not just for Disney, there’s so much more to discover in Florida, from glorious beaches and wonderful wildlife to the home of space travel and divine seafood, and it’s not called the sunshine state without reason!

🐫 From pristine coastlines, across wind-sept mountains to spectacular mountains, Oman offers modern Arabia without forsaking its historic traditional charm.

If you have been there and done all that, how about… enjoying the lingering warmth exploring the history of Malta, indulging in tapas in Seville, setting sail in the BVI before the crowds arrive or enjoying New Zealand bursting into springtime colour.

Fancy a weekend away? From hidden gems to buzzing streets, check out these suggestions for a fabulous min-break.

🇳🇴 Oslo - Norway's capital is a brilliant blend of old and new architecture.

Experiential extension: Norway in a Nutshell – A legendary tour from Oslo to Bergen, taking you through Norway’s most breathtaking UNESCO protected fjord and mountain scenery, as well as a trip on Europe’s top scenic rail journey.

🇩🇪 Berlin - The German capital is big, bold, and beautifully compelling. There's more here than you can fit into a weekend, even a long one, so take your time and enjoy strolling around.

Quirky stay: Huttenpalast – eccentric urban glamping in vintage caravans inside a converted vacuum factory!

🇭🇺 Budapest - Named one of Conde Nast Traveller's top places to visit in 2024 after celebrating its 150th anniversary in late 2023.

No kids allowed: Hotel Clark Budapest - A fabulously stylish boutique hotel for over-18s only. In a prime spot next to the Chain Bridge, with magnificent river views from its rooftop bar and many of its rooms.

🇮🇹 Venice - Great for couples but also friends, families, and solo travellers, this road-traffic-free city is one of the loveliest in the world for simply ambling around - perhaps with a gelato in hand.

Must do: Live like a local and enjoy cicchetti with an early evening glass of wine, whilst watching the world go by at the wonderful All'Arco.

🇪🇸 Palma - The Majorcan capital delivers blissful sunshine less than two and a half hours' flight time from London.

Luxury break: Stay at the luxurious 5* Can Cera, a refurbished 17th-century palace with grand Renaissance flourishes. Tucked away in the labyrinthine streets of Palma's Gothic Quarter, it is close to many key sights, Palma Cathedral, shops, restaurants and only 10 minutes from the beach.

Having been away last week, I have been a little late catching up on the current BBC series of Race Across The World. Not only did watching the intrepid competitors sprinting across Japan in episode 1 give me an idea for a family Japanese enquiry I am currently working on, but I was also interested to see the teams traverse South Korea in episode 2, having arranged a fabulous trip there for a keen K-Dram (Korean Drama) fan last year.

My client asked me to create a two week itinerary to travel solo, taking in many of South Korea’s main highlights, experiencing local culture and traveling by bullet train, plus he wanted to visit some of the remote and unique locations used for filming in his much loved Korean Dramas.

‘’10/10 Service. Suzanna found a better flight than I had considered and put together options to add convenience and variety. She arranged a dedicated tour guide for one day specific to an objective of the trip, included additional activities and provided a clear itinerary. Thank you.’’

Welcome to April

In my series ‘Where to go in…’ and with people booking on average 6-7 months in advance, herewith inspiration for travel in OCTOBER:

🍀 A small city, but Dublin packs a punch and is a great destination for a long weekend. Full of heritage and with cosmopolitan vibes, discover for yourself whether a pint of Guinness really does taste better in Dublin!

🥘 Marrakech is rich in culture and full of memorising colours, tastes and sounds. Enjoy staying in a traditional riad, take a tour of the local souk and learn to make tagine the authentic Moroccan way.

🛕 Enjoy deserted golden beaches, glistening cities, lush jungles, wildlife-filled treks and mystical wonders such as the temple of Ankor Wat. Cambodia is a fabulously diverse country, perfect for an amazing multi centre itinerary.

If you have been there and done all that, how about… enjoying the autumnal harvest of mushrooms and truffles in Italy’s Piedmont region, floating down Portugal’s Duro whilst the vineyards are in harvest, experience the seasonal change in Namibia with the bush having died back and animals gathering in vast numbers at the shrunken waterholes or take advantage of a quieter Pacific paradise in Fiji as the peak season crowds disappear but temperatures remain perfect (and before the wet season arrives!).

Excited to be packing my bag for a lovely trip to Paris this weekend, spending 24 hours indulging in the fabulous Uniworld hospitality aboard their luxurious ‘SS Joie de Vivre’, followed by a night at the magnificent Le Cinq Codet.

‘’S.S. Joie de Vivre brings the ‘’joy of living” to the rivers of France. Step aboard your floating pied-à-terre in France, featuring handcrafted furniture and fine antiques, original artwork and signature accents inspired by 20th-century Parisian design from the Golden Twenties to the free-spirited Sixties, all blending seamlessly with modern conveniences.’’ – Uniworld Boutique River Cruises

‘’The most contemporary of Left Bank hotels, Le Cinq Codet is a 5-star property located in the very chic 7th Arrondissement, between the Eiffel Tower and the Invalides Museum. It is a place that one does not expect, a building dating back to the 30s, rare and surprising. Like the bow of an ocean liner, its art-deco geometry stands out for its difference. Pick up the ambience of designer Jean-Philippe Nuel and his Art Deco approach to the modern and contemporary elegance of each area of the establishment.’’ – Le Cinq Codet

I shall be reporting back about my travels, but if you are considering a river cruise or a break to Paris, please fire away with any questions in the meantime as whilst we will be hosted by Uniworld, there will also be representatives from other luxury cruise operators onboard, including Silversea, Oceania, Celebrity Cruises and Regent Seven Seas.

A bientôt!

Welcome to March

As I hope you now know, many people I find on average book trips around 6-7 months in advance, so my in my next instalment of ‘Where to go in…’, here’s inspiration for travel in SEPTEMBER:

🌅 Rugged cliffs, white washed buildings and stunning shores, the volcanic island of Santorini is one of the most picturesque Greek islands. A fabulous place for flawless sunsets.

🦘 Vast and diverse, Western Australia offers a whole world of exploration from baffling rock formations and ancient Aboriginal sites to swimming with majestic whale sharks in crystal clear water to sweeping green vineyards of world-class vineyards.

🍹 A melting pot of culture, history, innovation, business and tourism, Singapore is not only an excellent stop off on a long haul flight, but a marvellous destination in its own right. No visit to Singapore would be complete without a Singapore Sling (or two!) at the iconic Raffles Hotel.

If you have been there and done all that, how about… exploring the rugged mountainous wilds of Corsica, enjoying the sun kissed shores of Cyprus, admiring old Beijing and the Great Wall of China with backdrop of fabulous Autumnal colours or loosing yourself on the ‘roof of the world’ in mystical Tibet.

Happy International Polar Bear Day!

Did you know?
▪️ Polar bears can reach swimming speeds of up to 6mph and can swim continuously for hours, paddling with their front paws the size of dinner plates and holding their hind legs flat like a rudder.
▪️ Polar bears have a very strong sense of smell, sniffing out seal breathing holes in the ice up to 1km away.
▪️ A polar bears skin is actually black and their fur translucent, appearing white due to the reflected light.
▪️ A ‘grolar bear’ or ‘pizzly bear’ is actually a thing, with genetic tests revealing the existence of polar bear-grizzly bear hybrids.
▪️ A male polar bear can weigh up to 800kg and grow up to 3 metres long, twice the size of females. They are the largest bear species and land carnivores in the world.

Polar bears are found across the circumpolar Arctic, in Canada, Alaska, Russia, Svalbard and Greenland and seeing polar bears in the wild is such a magical experience. If it’s good enough for Susan Calman… (read to the end to see what I am referring to!)

Cruising to Antarctica has long been on my bucket list and over the past couple of weeks I have enjoyed watching Susan Calman on Channel 5 explore this remote wilderness aboard the luxury discovery ship, Scenic Eclipse.

Departing from Ushuaia, Susan bravely crossed the infamous Drake Passage to experience ‘the white continent’ in some very unique ways. Kayaking and zodiac safaris saw her get close to whales, orcas, dolphins, seals, albatross and numerous species of penguin, but if that wasn’t enough, the onboard helicopter and submarine adventures really stole the show, soaring over the dramatic landscape and seeing ’’a sky full of stars on the ocean floor’’. The ultra-luxury Scenic Eclipse was one of the world's first ‘discovery yachts’, built to operate in Earth’s most extreme environments, taking intrepid guests to places previously inaccessible to ordinary travellers.

However, also very exciting for me was Susan’s pre-cruise exploration of Buenos Aires, led by lovely guide ‘Joy of Buenos Aires’. Why was I so interested this, I hear you cry? Well, I currently have a mother and son on a grand tour of South America and in a couple of weeks, they will be exploring Buenos Aires with the one and only !

Born and bred in Buenos Aires, Joy’s hometown passion shines through as she navigates tourists around the local culture, history and cuisine. ‘’This city is not meant to be seen from a tour bus or with one’s nose stuck in a guidebook. Instead, my tours reveal the true beat of Buenos Aires. Exploring like a true ‘porteño’; by bus, metro, train and on foot. We sample local cuisine, music and all the culture that Buenos Aires has to offer to create lasting memories!’’

Book with me and you will not only get a truly bespoke trip, but only the best of the best! I have fabulous local contacts all over the world, many of which you will not find online, and as said at the beginning of this post… if it’s good enough for Susan Calman and primetime TV viewing!

If you fancy following in Susan’s intrepid footsteps, there has never been a better time to book a luxury cruise to Antarctica, with Scenic currently offering up to 35% OFF selected departures, INCLUDED RETURN FLIGHTS and FREE DOOR-TO-DOOR TRANSFERS. But hurry, only for eligible bookings confirmed before this Thursday (29 Feb)!

Lastly… if you are reading this, well done braving the polar plunge (brrrr 🥶)!

21/02/2024

If, like me, you enjoyed the first couple of seasons of the quirky hit show ‘White Lotus’ and have since longed to visit the fabulous properties featured, that is the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, Hawaii and the San Domenico Palace in Taormina, Sicily, why not get ahead of the trend and visit the property to be backdrop for the highly anticipated series 3, the Four Seasons Koh Samui Resort, Thailand.

Nestled in the Gulf of Thailand, Four Seasons Koh Samui Resort is a laidback and luxurious hideaway, offering sweeping views of the sea and island's lush interior. Perched on the tropical hillside, sea-facing villas come with a private infinity pool and chic interiors, providing the perfect blend of spaciousness, comfort and authenticity. For families and larger groups, the sumptuous one to five bedroom Residence Villas are perfect, offering kitchenettes, panoramic ocean views from the private infinity pool, al fresco dining pavilions and a live-in personal residential assistant to take care of every detail.

Once you tire of lounging by your private pool, step outside your door to experience the resorts impressive facilities, including its beachside pools, spa with signature treatments and yoga classes, fully equipped fitness centre and cookery classes. For the adventurous there’s a huge array of further experiences including private yacht trips to explore the nearby bays and islands of the Ang Thong National Marine Park, diving, snorkelling, golf, tennis and land excursions to further connect with the island's natural wonders.

Culinary delights include Southern Thai at the hillside Koh Thai Kitchen, fresh seafood with prime cuts of meat at Pla Pla by the beach, leisurely poolside cocktails at CoCoRum Bar, dinner for two on the beach serenaded by gentle ocean waves and swaying palms and of course, private dining and BBQ’s on your own decking. Guests can also indulge in cocktail making classes and even rum tastings at Asia’s first Rum Vault.

The resort is focused on sustainability and restoration, from the food and beverage menus curated by the resorts culinary experts, to the Coral Conservation Project, led by an in-house marine biologist.

Great setting, great service, great food, great company – there’s no better way to spend your days on Koh Samui.

Over the past couple of weeks I have been working on a lovely itinerary for two couples looking to explore Norway.

Flying direct to Bergen, they will have a day free to wander this wonderful city, known for its colourful harbourside buildings and fascinating historical attractions. Day two will see them embark their home for the next 11 nights, MS Havila Ploaris, to explore the majestic Norwegian coast from Bergen to Kirkenes (and back to Bergen).

The cruise will travel through some of the world’s most beautiful fjords, cross into the Arctic Circle and sail around the North Cape plateau, at the very top of Europe. Stop offs will include cities and towns such as Trondheim, Alesund and Bodo, plus many smaller fishing villages including Stamsund, Risoyhamn and Vardo – some so remote they are only accessible by sea.

Along the way there will be option to join excursions involving hiking, kayaking, city walking tours, e-biking, RIB safaris, reindeer sledding and ice bathing. Plus some very unique experiences, such as dining with Vikings, learning about the local Sami culture, visiting an ice hotel and fishing for king crab!

Having returned to Bergen, the journey continues across Norway through further breathtaking fjord and mountain scenery to Oslo. Taking the train to Voss, my intrepid travellers will hop to Gudvangen by road, before embarking an electric boat through the UNESCO-protected Naeroyfjord, Sognefjord and Aurlandsfjord to Falm. A couple of nights in Flam for some spectacular hiking and to sample the local Viking inspired brew, before boarding the famous Flamsbana, often referred to as one of the world’s most beautiful train journeys. Rejoining the mainline at the high altitude junction at Myrdal, the train will continue past soaring peaks, across plateaus and through authentic Norway all the way to Oslo.

Finally, a couple of nights in Norway’s vibrant capital, Oslo, with charming neighbourhoods, world class food, cutting edge architecture, fascinating museums and cool street art and sculptures.

A great combination of planes, trains and automobiles (and ships!) to explore the huge diversity Norway has to offer.

If you fancy a trip like this but perhaps don’t have the time to spare (this itinerary is 18 nights), no problem – as always, everything is adjustable to suit individual requirements. Perhaps sail one way from Bergen to Kirkenes, fly to Oslo and take the train to Bergen, via Flam and the UNESCO fjords, in just one day (approx. 11 nights total) or fly to Oslo, take the train to Bergen, cruise to Kirkeness and fly straight back to the UK (approx. 9 nights total). As always, anything is possible – just let me know your requirements.

Last week I was lucky to be invited aboard MSC’s newest ship into their fleet, Euribia. One of their larger ships and probably the biggest cruise ship I have had the pleasure to explore (currently the 12th largest cruise ship in the world), the well designed areas and entertainment comfortably accommodates all types of guest from babies through the tweens and teens, multi-generations, groups, solos and couples.

Embarking into the magnificent central Galeria, guests are immediately wowed by the glittering crystal staircases and spectacular LED Dome running the length of the indoor promenade, home to some fabulous shopping and an array of tasty restaurants – the perfect destination for socializing and entertainment.

With five swimming pools, including one of the most intricate waterparks and longest pool at sea, there is plenty of space for guests to relax on deck, in and out of the water. The Balinese styled Aurea Spa is a fabulous haven for relaxation, offering a wide range of massages and beauty treatments, thermal area, hair salon, nail bar and barber shop.

Euribia probably has some of the best facilities I have seen for younger cruisers, with seven rooms dedicated to children and teens of all ages, including an indoor sports hall, games areas, more than 100 hours of live family entertainment per cruise and the first MSC Foundation Youth Centre. The ship also offers fabulous family cabins, specific dining and excursions.

For those preferring a more luxurious cruising experience, Euribia has a lovely private members area, the MSC Yacht Club, with a dedicated restaurant and lounges, large private pool area with solarium and whirlpool baths, 24-hour butler service, dedicated massage rooms and full access to the thermal suite in the MSC Aurea Spa.

Dining includes a fabulous range of 10 unique venues from buffet to 5* waiter service, salads and sandwiches to sushi and teppanyaki. Being an Italian owned cruise line, the homemade seafood pasta was simply divine! 21 bars dotted about the ship ensuring guests are never thirsty, including a sports bar showing the big games, traditional pub, sunset bar, champagne bar, big band lounge and plenty more. There is also great entertainment onboard, such as comedy and stage shows, acrobatics and cabaret.

Euribia is named after the ancient goddess Eurybia who harnessed the winds, weather and constellations to master the seas. Following in her footsteps, Euribia uses state-of-the-art sustainable technology to protect and preserve the precious marine ecosystem, with advanced onboard wastewater treatment system, strict recycling procedures and a wide range of energy-saving equipment to maximise efficiency, such as smart heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Even Euribia’s hull symbolizes MSC’s commitment to the sea, with a unique and iconic design and the hashtag .

A fabulous ship offering a huge range of onboard facilities to suit all cruisers and some wonderful itineraries to match.
