‘Skillywiddens’ garden in Autumn, a testament to nature's resilience and the unique climate we have here in West Cornwall. These late blooms defy the changing seasons, painting a vibrant picture before winter takes its hold. 🌼🌸🍃

🧡 Memories of a beautiful September sunset up by Wheal Coates Mine complex. 🌾 The Gorse and Heather painted a vivid carpet of colours, while the presence of Saharan dust in the air added a touch of haze to the serene atmosphere.

🩵 Exploring Penberth Cove 🩵

Penberth Cove is a treasure trove of history and natural beauty. As well as the historic capstan windlass, granite slipway and charming fisherman’s cottage, there’s a lovely old clapper bridge with some ancient stepping stones across the ford.

On our next visit, we plan to embark on a journey along the southwest coastal path, leading us towards Lamorna Cove. 🌊🌿

Today, we had the opportunity to visit the 'Gaia' art installation by Luke Jerram, located in Truro Cathedral.
Gazing up at this giant illuminated Earth was truly amazing - it was a though we had been transported to the vantage point of an astronaut in space. The sight of our planet slowly spinning left me in awe, especially as I marveled at the vast expanses of water.
This unique experience served as a poignant reminder of our duty to nurture and protect the natural world. For me, it provoked deep reflections on how, as humans, we often find ourselves preoccupied with conflicts and territorial disputes, rather than prioritizing the grander, more interconnected picture of our shared planet.

💙 Gaia was the Greek goddess of Earth 🌏

Penberth Cove has a timeless feel. This small fishing hamlet is charming and has changed little in a hundred years which is probably why it was used as a filming set for Poldark.
It was nice just to sit and enjoy the atmosphere the other day.

Today, we picked fresh corn and two adorable little pumpkins from the veg. plot. Autumn has arrived here at Skillywiddens with so many lovely colours in the garden. 🌽🍂🎃

Yesterday evening we walked the coastal path from Poldhu Cove towards Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach. It was quite breezy but still pleasantly warm.

Poldhu boasts a sandy, sheltered beach, while Gunwalloe is an archaeological treasure, enveloped by dunes, beaches, a medieval church, and a vibrant reedbed teeming with wildlife.

I love this period between the fading days of summer and the onset of autumn. It’s a peaceful time in Cornwall.
Friday evening I snapped a few photos of the evening sky with its rosy hue.

This July and August we hosted guests from Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and here in the U.K. Each family brought their own unique charm and warmth and it was truly a pleasure hosting them all.

This morning we said goodbye once again to our lovely family from Yorkshire with twins James & Jessica whose boundless energy and infectious laughter really brightened our days.
( I love their ‘Skillywidden Piskie’ drawing 🥰)

We hope that all of our guests will carry fond memories of their time here at Skillywiddens and of their Cornwall adventure.

Here are some of our reviews from this summer season.

Discover a world of tastes at Discovery Quay's restaurants and bars with amazing atmosphere and views by the harbour. Indulge in a culinary journey, from succulent seafood to sizzling steaks and delightful tapas. 🥂✨
And perhaps afterwards- take a leisurely stroll on the sandy shore, transforming your evening into a cherished memory that lingers long after the sun sets.
⭐️Thank you to my son for these lovely photos. 🥰

I had errands to run in Mullion early this morning so stopped by the harbour to just enjoy the peaceful hush of the place for a bit.
Even on an overcast morning the stark contrast of the stone against the sky and water is a wonderful mix of colour and texture.

I just popped into a sea-misty Falmouth to run errands and managed to snap a few photos of the ‘Tall Ships’ moored close to Discovery Quay and the Maritime Museum.

A short video clip of a Peacock Butterfly, Jersey Tiger Moth and Red Admiral. 🥰

The ‘Jersey Tiger Moth’ with its unique zebra stripe pattern will fly in both day and night. Until recently it was considered scarce in the UK and could only be commonly encountered on Jersey and some parts of the South Devon. Here it is at Skillywiddens!

With so much going on in Falmouth just now it’s nice to be able to return to Skillywiddens to relax and catch your breath. It’s hard to believe we are just three miles along the road when you’re sat outside listening to the gentle sounds of the countryside.
There are so many Butterflies and Bees around today in the sunshine - a ‘Jersey Tiger Moth’ too with its unique zebra stripe pattern.
Photos taken in the last hour here at Skillywiddens.
