Dr Neil Reid, quoted in the article, was onboard RHIB Endurance recently. Skipper Tim drove Neil to various spots all over Lough Neagh to collect numerous surface samples of the water over the course of two days. The samples are currently frozen safely and await testing which will give much needed information about the waters of Lough Neagh, information which will be invaluable in assessing the cyanobacteria levels and spread and which will be needed in order to plan the management of Lough Neagh. This is the research worth funding. No one else has such extensive samples available and taken at a time when the blooms are so widespread.

Harmful algal blooms are taking over as the world warms and grows richer in carbon dioxide—and there’s no easy fix.

Earlier this year we had a day out on Lough Neagh filming with Julia Bradbury for a new series about travelling around Ireland. We're looking forward to seeing this broadcast later this year.

If you want to get out on Lough Neagh too to experience one of our most popular Lough Neagh Tours which includes a visit to Rams Island, we have availability this Saturday afternoon.

Private charter from Antrim on our 12 seater RHIB. Gather your family or friends for a wee day out. Pack a picnic or dine at the Boathouse afterwards.

Contact Lynn on 07845 370231 for more information or to book your adventure 🥳

Explore Lough Neagh

Set in the heart of Northern Ireland Lough Neagh is a unique landscape with many stories to tell; tales of Vikings, Normans, the O’Neills, Fionn Mac Cumhaill, banshees and even mermaids. Every part of Lough Neagh is steeped in history and heritage, with many religious and historical relics still in evidence today.

Each Island holds secrets and stories from Neolithic times to modern day.

The Lough is interwoven in the lives of those who have lived and who are living on the Lough shores. It remains a playground for water users, a haven for those wishing to escape the rat race, a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts, and provides a living for those who carry on the age old tradition of fishing.

Our trips leave from The Lock Keepers Cottage on Toome Canal in the village of Toome on the North West corner of Lough Neagh. This is on the main Belfast to Derry route, 30 minutes from Belfast.
