Going through photos from Norway I noticed we saw (but completely missed at the time 😳) Nacreous clouds. Sometimes referred to as mother-of-pearl clouds too. Have you ever seen them? They are so pretty!

They’re some of the highest clouds in our atmosphere and form in very cold conditions over polar regions.
It happens when the sun is just below the horizon which causes the clouds to be lit from below creating these gorgeous colours.
The ice particles are much smaller than those you’d find in more common clouds, which causes the light to be scattered in a different way creating an iridescent appearance.
They’re more likely to be seen in places like Canada and Scandinavia because of the higher latitudes. If you’re very lucky, you might once day catch a glimpse of these beautiful clouds.

We managed to see the Northern Lights from our garden last night. It’s absolutely incredible to see them from home. Tonight is supposed to be another great show. My top tips are below but my number one is lower your expectations!!! You will be highly unlikely to see the colours you see in photos and any movement will likely be very faint.

Tips to seeing the Aurora in the UK:

Get away from as much light pollution as you can, into the dark countryside is best, look to the North if you have clear sky, it could be so strong it might even be overhead tonight. 👍

By eye look for soft pale whitish vertical streaks and red tones in the sky, do not expect to see bright vibrant colours like the camera photos you see online because the Aurora is pastel coloured to the human eye. If you can see stars through the cloud like sky you have found them 👍

The easiest way to tell if any Aurora is there is to hold your phone camera up to the night sky and take a photo in night mode and take a long exposure photo and check for pinks and greens in the image👍 if you have pink or green streaks then its likely you have a photo of the Northern Lights🙏🔥👏

Always turn your phone’s camera flash off!!!! Use night mode on your phone and extend your exposure time. These pics were taken on my iPhone in night mode. There is no filtering or editing. 🙏

Hi I’m Karen. I work full time as a senior nurse in the NHS. Travel has always been my passion and my favourite way to relax. December 2023: the opportunity to book a Hurtigruten Northern Lights cruise came up at an unbelievable price that was to good to miss so obviously we had to book it! I’m so excited for this in March and without being part of the business there is no way I would have ever been able to do this. I also booked some hotels for events next year through my system which will earn me commission #2023

November 2023; lots of hotel bookings this month. Bournemouth for a travel event, Hemel Hempstead for a ski taster day, 2 London hotels for my QNI award and a travel event in January. All booked through my systems securing a great rate and earning commission. I also booked hotels for friends in Cardiff and London earning myself some commission. I also booked airport parking for out upcoming ski trip booked through my system. All of these saved me considerable money and earned me commission #2023

September 2023: This month I booked some final activities for our Egypt trip including a private dolphin and snorkelling trip and a quad bike safari with camel ride. These were booked through my system. Both cheaper than I could find elsewhere plus I earned commission that was paid approximately 60 days after travel #2023
