I’m sorry that we have been so quiet for the last few months.
Last year we had another great season at Moorparks . Once again, we enjoyed having visiting guests from around the world. It was a special year as it was our last at Moorparks and last in Devon. Moorparks Holiday Cottages will no longer be taking bookings. Today we exchanged contracts…after many, many months!
Michele and I have had an amazing time in Devon, learning about and spending time with our animals. The pull of being closer to children, and more recently grandchildren, will take us to Norfolk.
We would like to thank everyone who has stayed with us over the last 8 years, some once but many year after year. Moorparks, our animals, our guests and the amazing places in North Devon have made this a wonderful time which will have a special place in our hearts.
We hope that your memories of Moorparks Holiday Cottages will be as long lasting as ours.
Thank you

Westward Ho!
Last weeks trip to Westward Ho! was just to go for a walk by the sea while the sun was out.
This is our nearest beach and just 16 miles away. The town has many places to eat (Our favourite is The Drift Restaurant), both a pebble beach with lots of rock pools, a seawater pool and also a huge sandy beach too.
There is a lovely walk along the cliffs, an old railway line, and right next to a free car park (What3words: ///snowboard.intensely.polished).
When you visit, it's a must!

On a sunny day it doesn't get much better.
Yesterday we spent the afternoon in Westward Ho! (i'll keep that for another day) and on the way home decided to have a drink and dinner at The Boathouse in Instow. What an awesome place to be when the sun is out, watching the tide come in and the sun go down is special. The food was great and the staff were very friendly and attentive.
Make sure to book a table early or you'll miss out. 😊

We were going to visit Castle Drogo a few weeks back but ended up on a walk from the castle to Fingles Bridge (link below)....which just happened to have a pub next to it.

So, last week we actually got into the castle. It's only 20 miles from Moorparks Holiday Cottages, Devon and a nice drive through the countryside. There's lots to see inside the castle and lovely gardens surrounding it. Castle Drogo is a National Trust property so great if you are a member.
Another great place to visit when you are here. 😊

Meeth Quarry Nature Reserve
Yesterday we took some time out to visit Meeth Quarry nature reserve, a huge 150 hectare reserve.
Until the late 1990s Meeth was a busy quarry producing clay for export,
Devon Wildlife trust took it on in 2013 and started the transformation. The car park is open 9-5pm every day but it can also be accessed via the Tarka trail, great for walkers and cyclists.
Another must when you visit. 😉

Yesterday we were going to visit the National Trust Castle Drogo but ended up going for a walk from the castle to Fingles Bridge and back. There are a few routes marked out of differing lengths.
This walk was about 4 miles with some lovely views along the way. It just so happened that their was a pub by the bridge, so we stopped for lunch. 🙄
We plan to go back in a week or two to see the castle as it's been a while since our last visit.
The walk was great, we'll let you know about the castle soon. 😉
If you are visiting then this should be near the top of your list.

Meldon Quarry, Okehampton.
This weekend we are lucky enough to have our grand daughter visiting us so we took a trip to Meldon Quarry. Just a half hour drive from Moorparks Holiday Cottages, Devon brings you to this amazing place, so peaceful. There are plenty of walks and places to sit, relax and have a picnic. 😊

Poor Trigger 😟
For the last week we have had a young guest picking out the best bits of hay for Trigger morning and evening.
Now she has gone it's back to being last in line behind Del and Rodney.
He is looking around the corners to see if she is coming. 😢

One not to be missed!
A first time for us to the Valley of the rocks before our trip to Lynton. This is a great place for a picnic and walk along the coastal path.
The pictures say it all.

Lynton & Lymouth.
With family here we took a trip up to Lynton & Lynmouth. A fantastic sunny day so we decided to park in Lynton and walk down to Lymouth. It's a steep (downhill) walk but a great way to see the railway. We had Ice creams, drinks, pasties at a cafe before exploring Lynmouth. We would usually walk to Watersmeet but it was too hot for that and we didn't have that much time. Going back up the hill to Lynton was easier as we took the rail line and then a little more exploring the town of Lynton. It's a wonderful place to visit and the journey there has some amazing views. It's about 1hr 20mins from Moorparks.

It's always nice to go somewhere a little different when you are on holiday.
If you love fresh seaford, you'll love River Exe Cafe.
This was our second visit, it's usually booked well in advance so you need to plan ahead.
With a son and daughter-in-law joining us we headed down to Exmouth for dinner. This restaurant is a little different as you take a 25 min water taxi to get it as it sits in the middle of the river. The food was lovely and the staff very friendly. It was a thumbs up from our guests too. 😊
Thanks to Kayleigh Robinson-Poacher for the pictures (and another diner who took our group picture 😂)

What an awesome weekend! ❤️
At last we have been able to get outside for a few days and get some gardening done. Lawns to mow, paddocks to top, borders to w**d and tidy.
Don't forget, out of school holidays, we also offer 3/4 and 5 night stays at Moorparks Holiday Cottages, Devon.
Check out website for availability.

A bit of a surprise this morning when Michele collected the eggs. 4 chicken eggs so far (there may be more later) and two duck eggs.....or one and a quarter!🤔
We are guessing one duck is starting to molt which is one of the reasons they lay small eggs. It can be down to stress but as these girls have a 'life of luxury' i'm ruling that one out. 😉
Looks like omelette for dinner again. 😳

That was quicker than i thought, we collected them last night at half past hen 🙄, say hello to the new girls.
Their names are Ginger, Nutmeg, Pepper and Baby.
Thank you so much to Sonia who let us rehome them. 😊

Just in time for the end of 'Flockdown' (Avian flu lockdown) we managed to finish all of the fencing around the chicken run and tidy up a bit. A few more chickens will be joing soon. 😊

Once again we said goodbye to departing guests, one a 4th visit and one, our first German visitors (we have had guests from Italy, France, Denmark, Australia and the Netherlands) delayed by 3 years due to covid. 😱
We were very kindly left a bottle of wine and our German guests left ME two chocolate bunnys! 🤔
Thank you both. 😊
