Akhaltsikhe, the main hub in southern Georgia’s Samtskhe-Javakheti region, is best known for being home to Rabati Castle, the massive 12th-century fortification that gives the surrounding settlement (‘New Castle’ in Georgian) its name. Rabati Castle is a popular attraction of Akhaltsikhe. In 2012, it was reconstructed and strengthened. Rabati Castle has a powerful fortress wall, four towers with spiral staircases, an observation deck, and buildings. Beyond Rabati, Akhaltsikhe is a small city by any measure. But you can enjoy with the colorful streets and vintage atmosphere of this city.

Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery is one of the main exhibition spaces for presenting contemporary art. The gallery space is suitable for both permanent and temporary exhibitions. The first floor is dedicated to Georgian and international exhibition-educational projects. On the second floor there is a permanent exhibition of works by Niko Pirosmanashvili, Davit Kakabadze, Lado Gudiashvili and Iakob Nikoladze.
