Akhaltsikhe, the main hub in southern Georgia’s Samtskhe-Javakheti region, is best known for being home to Rabati Castle, the massive 12th-century fortification that gives the surrounding settlement (‘New Castle’ in Georgian) its name. Rabati Castle is a popular attraction of Akhaltsikhe. In 2012, it was reconstructed and strengthened. Rabati Castle has a powerful fortress wall, four towers with spiral staircases, an observation deck, and buildings. Beyond Rabati, Akhaltsikhe is a small city by any measure. But you can enjoy with the colorful streets and vintage atmosphere of this city.

Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery is one of the main exhibition spaces for presenting contemporary art. The gallery space is suitable for both permanent and temporary exhibitions. The first floor is dedicated to Georgian and international exhibition-educational projects. On the second floor there is a permanent exhibition of works by Niko Pirosmanashvili, Davit Kakabadze, Lado Gudiashvili and Iakob Nikoladze.

🇬🇪 Georgia now ❄

👉Georgia's winter resorts of Mestia, Gudauri and Goderdzi are set to launch their 2021-2022 ski season on Christmas, the state agency for managing mountain resort locations has said.
👉Four ski tracks, with their 7 km-long routes, will be available at Hatsvali for "skiers of all categories", the state resort body has said, while the Tetnuldi Peak will feature five cable car links and five tracks, the highest of them perched at 3,168 metres above sea level.
👉In Gudauri, 18 ropeways will be operated by resort authorities to serve 22 tracks reaching 70 km in distance, while two cable car connections and a 7 km-long ski track will await those picking Goderdzi as their destination for the upcoming season.

🇬🇪Prometheus Caves

Prometheus Cave is a world-renowned site of natural beauty and a must-visit site in Georgia. A visit to the cave, which is decorated with amazing stalactites and stalagmites, is a journey into a fabulous underground world.
The name “Prometheus Cave” is linked to the Greek myth of Prometheus, who was chained to a rock in the Caucasus mountains for teaching humans the secrets of the Gods – in particular, for giving them fire. Zeus sent eagles to feed on Prometheus’ liver, which, as the liver was perpetually renewed, caused him pain every day.
Prometheus Cave developed 60-70 million years ago in the Sataphlia-Tskaltubo karst massif. While it is known to be the largest cave in Georgia, the cave’s exact size is unclear as exploration work remains underway. However, a 1.8km long segment, thought to represent just 10% of the entire cave, is open to visitors.

🇬🇪Gergeti Trinity Church⛪

The old Georgian Church is located under the Mount Kazbek, 2170m above the town of Stepantsminda (former Kazbegi) and village of Gergeti whose name she had adopted. The church is widely known as Gergeti trinity Church thought Georgians call it Gergeti Tsminda Sameba.
The Gergeti Trinity Church was built in the 14th century, and is the only cross-cupola church in Khevi province. The separate belltower dates from the same period as the church itself. Its isolated location on top of a steep mountain surrounded by the vastness of nature has made it a symbol for Georgia. The 18th century Georgian author Vakhushti Batonishvili wrote that in times of danger, precious relics from Mtskheta, including Saint Nino's Cross were brought here for safekeeping. During the Soviet era, all religious services were prohibited, but the church remained a popular tourist destination. The church is now an active establishment of the Georgian Orthodox and Apostolic Church.
This Georgian experience can increase anybody's knowledge regarding history and architecture, becoming an unique escape to a seemingly different world. 🇬🇪❤

🇬🇪Holy Trinity Church - Sameba⛪

Commonly known as Sameba, Tbilisi's kitsch cathedral is located on Elia Hill above the left bank of the Mtkvari in the historic neighbourhood of Avlabari. It is the main Georgian Orthodox Cathedral and is the third-tallest Eastern Orthodox Cathedral in the world. Sameba was constructed between 1995 and 2004 and paid for by anonymous donations from citizens and several wealthy businessmen. The Sameba complex consists of the main cathedral, a free-standing bell-tower, the residence of the Patriarch, a monastery, a clerical seminary and theological academy.

Construction of Sameba Cathedral was timed to the 2000th anniversary of Christianity and 1500th anniversary of the independence of the Georgian church. The construction of the cathedral was decided in 1989 but it started only on 23 November 1995. The first divine service in cathedral was held on 25 December 2002 during the construction works that finally ended in 2004. Construction was sponsored by wealthy residents of the city. The square of the Sameba Cathedral equals 5000 square meters, and can place up to 15,000 people.

🇬🇪Peace Bridge🌉

Peace Bridge is the newest bridge in Tbilisi, opened in 2010 is made of steel and glass, it is pedestrian so called Peace Bridge. Nowadays one of the controversial symbols of "modern" Tbilisi.
The bridge was brought to Georgia from Italy in 200 unassembled components. The bridge is 156 meters long and has more than 10 000 LED bulbs built-in, that are switched on daily 90 minutes before the sunset.
The pulsating lights are communicating the message in Morse code; the message says chemical elements from the Mendeleev’s periodic table that make up a human body. The idea of the Italian designer Michele De Lucchi was to broadcast the message which is “the anthem of life and piece among people and nations”.
The Bridge of Peace is a convenient cross point between the Rike Park and the ‘old’ part of the town.
In 2012 the Bridge of Piece in Tbilisi hit the Top-13 most unusual bridges in the world.
Peace bridge provides amazing views of Tbilisi, especially at sunrise, sunset or night. 🥰🙏

🇬🇪 Narikala 🏰

Narikala is an ancient symbol of Tbilisi’s defence. The fortress was established in the 4th century, around the period when the city itself was founded. It was then known as Shuris-tsikhe (Invidious Fort). The name Narikala is said to derive from a Persian word for citadel, but another theory says was the name that Mongols used, meaning “little fortress”. It was expanded considerably by the Arabs during the 7th and 8th centuries. The Arabs built the Emir’s palace within its walls. King David further extended the Builder the fortress in the 11th century. Most of the existing fortifications date from the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1827 it was damaged by an earthquake and was not resorted. St. Nikolos church, inside the fortress walls, dates from the 12th century. It was renovated in 1996.

🇬🇪 26 May - national day of Georgia 🇬🇪

Georgia became independent in 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Almost 70 years earlier, in 1918, the country first declared national independence from Russia and the Democratic Republic of Georgia was born.

This is called "5 minutes independence" and the country was re-invaded by Russia’s Bolshevik Army and absorbed into the Soviet Union in 1921. Seventy years later, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Georgia once again became independent and today the country is marking 30 years since this fateful date.

🇬🇪 May 26 is a public holiday in Georgia. 🇬🇪
