How many forts and castles in Ghana do you know?

This is Fort Prinzenstein, located in Keta.
This is a Danish Fort that was actively involved in the slaved trade built in the late 1700s. It was built with oyster shells, some of which can be seen now due to the wear and tear of the building. A large part of the Fort has Ben destroyed by the sea. Thus a sea defense has now been created to preserve and protect what's left of the Fort.

Whenever you're in Keta, do well to visit 🇬🇭

This is the Famous Larabanga Mosque. The location of the Mosque was determined after a pear thrown by the leader and Imam of the acient Larabanga community landed there. This sacred ground is not only a Mosque but also holds the remains of this great Imam.

Did you know that Larabanga is a 100% Muslim community? No church can be found there.

The Palace of the Traditional Ruler of the Wa community, the Wa-Naa Palace.
There is so much to learn from here about the people and traditions of the community.

The Damba festival is from the 18th-24th of October. It will be a good time to visit and experience the rich culture of the community.
On the 6th day of the festival celebrations, the Wa-Naa will jump over a cow 🐄 😀. If the hem of his garment touches the cow, it means he will not live to meet the next Damba festival.😥

This is a monument in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jnr, we all know who he is and his involvement in civil rights. This monument is situated at Bono Manso near the slave wall(refer to my previous post).

Swipe to see the bust of Dr. Martin Luther King destroyed on the ground, lying behind the monument. The story is that there were rumours that the bust was made of gold or there was gold hidden in the bust.
So some young men in the town decided to break down the bust in order to steal the gold, resulting in a vandalised bust🤦🏼‍♀️😅😅

Hmm 😒 I leave you to make of it what you would.

This is called the marriage rock. In the olden days, when a little girl reaches adolescence, the people perform the puberty rite. During this rite, the girls will climb on top of the rock under the supervision of the Queen mother. Suitors will then race to climb the same rock, whichever suitor gets to the top first wins the right to pick any girl of his choice. The girls however, had the final say as to whether or not they liked the suitor in return.

Today there are many reasons a person would visit the Tano Sacred Grove.
From tourism to gaining favour from the gods. Some people perform all forms of acts and sacrifices in order to receive their heart desires.
On the marriage rock, you will find names of people, celebrities and 'big men' inclusive who have visited the Tano Sacred Grove. Whatever your reason is it is a good place to visit. You will see a lot and learn a lot.
You can decide to buy schnapps for the priests to perform some rites so that the gods will manifest themselves to you. They come in the form of a python, a tortoise or strong winds and sometimes even a lion.

It is forbidden to kill any animal you see in the sacred grove.

From the top of this huge rock,the tress look like pins from below. It is also possible to see some of the neighbouring towns. This rock provided a good visual coverage of any impending danger for the inhabitants of the sacred grove in the olden days.
It serves as a tourist center now even though the priests still pour libation over there. Remember to talk to the locals for a guide before venturing into the sacred Grove.

It is a taboo to enter and exist the sacred grove on the same path. One must use different paths for exist and entry.

The gentleman in the yellow shirt is a priest in the area.

This is the Tano Sacred Groove. It is believed that the ancestors and gods of the Tano people inhabit this groove. It is also believed that a woman in her period cannot use the tortoise trail and some other parts of the sacred Groove unless the priests pour libation and recite some incantations to the gods of the Tano people. Otherwise, she will be stung by a swarm of bees or worse.

Love Museums? The is a must visit art museum. It is located at East Legon and free to visit. I witnessed exhibitions by two of Ghana's most talented artists and lot's of paintings to purchase.
