The Larabanga Mosque is a mosque built in the Sudanese architectural style in the village of Larabanga, Ghana. It is the oldest mosque in the country and one of the oldest in West Africa, and has been referred to as the "Mecca of West Africa". It has undergone restoration several times since it was founded in 1421. The World Monuments Fund (WMF) has contributed substantially to its restoration, and lists it as one of the 100 Most Endangered Sites. The restoration works have revived the knowledge of adobe maintenance. The mosque has an old Quran, believed by the locals to have been given as a gift from heaven in 1650 to Yidan Barimah Bramah, the Imam at the time, as a result of his prayers. The mosque, built using West African adobe, has two tall towers in pyramidal shape, one for the mihrab which faces towards Mecca forming the facade on the east and the other as a minaret in the northeast corner. These are buttressed by twelve bulbous shaped structures, which are fitted with timber elements.

Mrs Theodosia Salome Abena Kumea Okoh néé Asihene was born in Wenchi on Tuesday 13th June 1922.

She is a renowned artist having exhibited her art pieces in various parts of the world.

She has worked in many mediums. She has produced sketches and paintings in watercolour, paintings in oil colour, and created many collages of feathers, and corn stalk, some of which have been hung in several homes and galleries all over the world.

She is best known in the art world for her design of the Ghana National Flag at Independence in 1957, a design that spawned off the flags of several African countries as they also became independent of colonial rule thereafter.

In the Sports world she is best known for her role as Chairman of the Ghana Hockey Association in its hectic formation years, during which time the national hockey pitch, now a modern Field Hockey Stadium, was acquired and built up. She has been a patron of the Ghana Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG).

She comes from a Presbyterian household background. Her Father the Very Reverend E. V Asihene was the first Black Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. She comes from a large family of largely successful and famous siblings. She has also been a teacher, a horticulturist, and a housewife with three children and several grandchildren.

She has had the privilege of travelling around a lot of Ghana and abroad with her Father and with her husband, the late Mr Enoch K Okoh, who until the coup of 1966 was Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service in Ghana.

She first published her memoirs in the form of an autobiography in time for her 80th birthday in 2002 and has revised and updated it in time for her 90th birthday on 13th June 2012.

Contribution pieces have been included as an addendum to the main autobiography, and it is richer for that reason.

She has written the autobiography as an informative historical essay to give any reader a glimpse into what life was like early on in this century, especially for those families that lived in the hinterland and in the rural areas of Ghana.

Aburi Botanic Garden was officially opened in March 1890.
Aburi Botanic Garden has had many roles over the years including plant introduction and teaching scientific methods of agriculture but today is one of the world's 1,800 botanic gardens leading the fight to save plant diversity through, research, conservation of medicinal plants, plant multiplication, horticulture training and environmental education. Prior to the establishment of the garden, the Gold Coast Government had built a sanatorium at the site for convalescing Government officials in 1875. In 1899, during the Governorship of His Excellency Sir W. Brandford-Griffith K.G.M.G., a few hectares of land was cleared in vicinity of the sanatorium to begin the Botanic Deparment. The clearing was done under the supervision of a German serving the Basel Mission. In 1890 Mr. William Crowther, a student from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew arrived in the Gold Coast(now Ghana) as the first curator of the botanic garden.

African star apple (Chrysophyllum albidum) is a traditonal fruit, which is predominant in tropical regions with the fruit parts consumed by the populace and used in folklore to manage diabetes. However, the likely activity mechanism is still undetermined. The current study examined and compared the inhibitory abilities of African star apple fruit parts on selected key enzymes related to diabetes mellitus in the pancreas tissue of rat.
