Meet The Man Behind “Adinkra” Meat Pies – He Quit His Banking Job To Start A Pastry Business – Photos & Video
In Ghana, everybody wants to follow the normal lifestyle, from University, get a masters degree and find yourself a job at a prestigious firm, by the time you are in your 50’s and 60’s, you may have been promoted to be a branch manager and start making money.
This is usually the case for most Ghanaians but Barima Osei Mensah begged to differ. If you do a 9-to-5 job and do lots of rounds in Accra, you may have seen street hawkers in white and green shirts selling meat pie, it’s called Adinkra Meat Pie.
The business was started by Barima Osei Mensah who has a masters degree in Business from the University of Texas. He landed himself a banking job in the UK but quit and started Adinkra Pasties. Today, he has employed well over 800 people to sell the pie on the streets of Accra.

Met this incredible man this morning. He’s got a masters degree but quit his lucrative banking job in the UK to set up a company in Ghana…selling meat pie. Now he employs over 800 people. The pie is called Adinkra. Most people are not humble when it comes to being entrepreneurial. They would ask U why they should go farming when they have a bachelors degree. Or they will ask U with all the qualifications they have, why should they sell bread on the streets. I tell you what, that’s where the millions are….be humble and God will raise you high
