HISTORY
The Akyease Stool and Royal family, belongs to the EKUONA Abusua (matriclan).
The family and Stool, originate from Adansi.
However in the tumultuous years of the 1690’s, during the tyrannical rule of Dankyirahene Odeefuo Ntim Gyakari,
many families from Dankyira, and Adansi which bordered Dankyira, emigrated to other Akan areas such as Akwamu, Kwaeman and Akyem, in order to escape the misrule and intermittent attacks from Dankyira.
The Ekuona royal family of Akyease emigrated from Adansi to Akyem. With the defeat of Dankyira in late 1700; and the formation of Asante in January 1701, several families who had fled from the Dankyira and Adanse areas, decided to settle in Asante to be under the welcoming and protective umbrella of Osei Tutu Opensuo, the Asantehene.
Osei Tutu and his Chief Priest Okomfo Anokye assured emigrants to the new Asante Nation, that they will be treated as equals and integrated into Asante.
In return, the emigrants helped to strengthen and expand the frontiers of the newly formed ASANTEMAN. This is how Asanteman became a refuge for all.
And, this explains the Osei Tutu-Komfo Anokye policy that everyone was to be treated as Osantenii, regardless of language or origin. Thus, in Asante revealing the background of anyone is considered an unspeakable taboo, punishable by death. A Chief who wantonly reveals the ancestry of a subject, faces possible destoolment. Asante has remained, out of many, ONE.
When Opoku Ware Katakyie succeeded Osei Tutu in 1717, he continued the policy of encouraging and welcoming others to emigrate to Asante. Okatakyie therefore, sent word to Nana Kwadwo Dua I, direct ancestor of the Nana Tabono Bonsu III, to settle in Asante to help build the Nation.
Nana Kwadwo Dua accepted the offer, and with his sister Nana Odowaa Kyei, and their people came to Asante and settled finally, at AKYEASE…. Now 35 miles from Kumase on the Kumase-Konongo road, by way of Bomfa.
Nana Odowa Kyei’s son Nana Tabono Bonsu I ruled Akyease in the 1720’s through the 1730’s..
Today their grandchild…… rules Akyease as Nana Tabono Bonsu III.
He swore the Oath-of-Allegiance to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on April 11, 2019. He serves Otumfuo Santehene through Otumfuo Gyaase Fekuo, headed by Buabasa Adu Bofuo, Otumfuo Gyaasehene.
Nana Tabono Bonsu has proverbially hit the ground running. He has embarked on several projects to transform his town, and the community. He deserves our encouragement, prayers, and support. We wish Nana Tabono Bonsu III all the best.
Mo Opeafo, Nana.
