SOCIAL DISTANCING IN SCHOOLS : A POSSIBILITY OR AN IMPOSSIBILITY?
As we have entered the era of , l would like to find out how teaching and learning should be done in congested classrooms and lecture halls when schools resume.
Should these educational institutions stick to the usual twenty-five (25) persons per every social gathering or they are to break the protocol stipulated by the central government?
Alternatively, will the government through the Ministry of Education, make it for teachers, students and all auxiliary workers in learning institutions i.e kitchen staff, security personnel, storekeepers, etc to put on protective gears?
If so, l'll humbly suggest to our authorities in the educational sector to freely distribute some of the items which help in fighting i.e hand sanitizers and nose masks considering the fact that some of the students and their parents are living on a shoestring budget.
Analyzing the issue from a different angle, l think the government can address the case of overcrowded lecture halls and classrooms and other problems related to it by replicating the system in the second cycle institutions or adopt the a.k.a system in order to lessen the students population in every sitting. I scribbled this very point because, l do not foresee the er****on of additional school blocks in the near future as in two or three months from now to accommodate the huge number of learners.
The first gentleman of our beloved country, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo professed in his first address to the citizens of Ghana that .''
Bearing the above statement in mind, l am of the view that, our leaders must thoroughly think through their decisions when reopening the educational institutions rather than tinkering and toiling with it.
As horizontal transmission otherwise referred to as community infections have now surpass the vertical transmission, thus cases from abroad, l will propose for an to be conducted in the schools. This will assist in identifying positive carriers of the virus in time before it gets out of hand and reaches the point where we cannot contain it as a sovereign nation like we've been seeing in other countries.
The pandemic is still lurking around in our backyards. The scientists i.e virologists, epidemiologists, etc are yet to come out with a panacea, thus, a vaccine to cure this deadly disease. As we patiently wait for the vaccine to come out, let's all remain vigilant and adhere to the precautionary measures spelt out by the World Health Organization (WHO).
