Fort St. Jago, Elmina 🇬🇭
Built about 300 meters from the Elmina Castle, the fort that was initially built to be a chapel was converted to a watch tower which served as a base of attack on the Elmina Castle by the Dutch.

It also served as a form of prison for European convicts in those days. It was built by the Portuguese in 1555.

The Three Wise Fantse Legends - Oson, Odapagyan, and Obrumankoma—situated at the Mankessim roundabout in the Central Region of Ghana.
This monument commemorates Fante migration from Techiman in the 16th century to their present home in the Central Region. According to Nana Akwaa Poku, the Mankrado of Mankessim, the monument was named "the three legends" because they were prepared to face whatever confronted them on their way either on land, air, or sea as represented by the elephant, eagle, and whale, respectively.

GREATER FANTE PROJECT & UNIFICATION

Anomansa (Elmina) and Oguaa (Cape Coast) used to be one under Fetu and Eguafo. East of Benya was under Fetu and West of Benya was under Eguafo. The Portuguese documented that they baptized 7 Effutu natives in the Benya lagoon.

The separation occurred when the Dutch arrived and they aligned with Asante (an inheritance from Denkyira) in the interior. This led to Elmina and it's surroundings becoming independent from Eguafo and Fetu rule. Fetu and Eguafo were later annexed by Fantes as the Borbor Fantes arrived and settled in parts of Cape Coast and the Great Fetu Kingdom collapsed, becoming part of the Greater Fante Project.

Eguafo collapsed during the Komemda Wars where King Takyi was Captured and sent to Jamaica by the Dutch. This Great Fante King was a revolutionary leader in the Caribbean.

The Dutch brought tensions between Elmina and Oguaa because they hated Fantes and the British. Oguaa also aligned with the British.

Note: The Previous Edinahen used to attend Oguaa Fetu Afahye.

In this month (April) in 1886, King Akyin II of Ekumfi questioned the Native Jurisdiction Ordinance of 1883 in the District Court in Saltpond. The NJO of 1883 tempered with the rights of the Kings and Chiefs of the Gold Coast to imprison their subjects.

King Akyin II subpoenaed all principal Fante Kings and Chiefs at Saltpond to solicit ideas to challenge the British authorities. All the Kings and Chiefs were faced with a threat of losing their immemorial right of imprisoning their subjects when they falter.

All Fante Kings and Chiefs made grand appearances into Saltpond to offer their support to King Akyin II. The Kings later served as witnesses for King Akyin II in his case. This was a situation that brought the Fante leaders together to resist gradual eroding of their rights.

This month should be remembered to appreciate all Fante Kings and Chiefs who contributed to this cause.

●●•• Kumasi War Memorial

This memorial, unveiled in 1927, was constructed by the British colonial administration to commemorate by name the members of the Gold Coast Regiment who died during the First World War. At the time of its construction, some of those named on this memorial had identifiable burials, however, the decision was taken to commemorate these men collectively rather than individually at the grave.

Cape Coast Castle (Swedish: Carolusborg) is one of about forty "slave castles", or large commercial forts, built on the Gold Coast of West Africa (now Ghana) by European traders. It was originally a Portuguese "feitoria" or trading post, established in 1555, which they named Cabo Corso.
In 1653, the Swedish Africa Company constructed a timber fort there. It originally was a centre for the trade in timber and gold. It was later used in the Atlantic slave trade. Other Ghanaian slave castles include Elmina Castle and Fort Christiansborg. They were used to hold enslaved Africans before they were loaded onto ships and sold in the Americas, especially the Caribbean. This "gate of no return" was the last stop before crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Cape Coast Castle, along with other forts and castles in Ghana, are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List because of their testimony to the Atlantic gold and slave trades.

Go on an adventure with THE FOUTS BUSINESS TRAVEL CONSULT to one of the biggest Outdoor Museums in Ghana “NKYINKYIM MUSEUM”

This is one of the most underrated tourist sites in Ghana if you are a lover of art and history. The museum is creatively built with a curation of unique sculptures that tell the stories of Africa's past and the struggles of Black people. It takes an hour and a half to tour the various sites on the over 100 acres of land set aside for artistic display.

Through sculpture, murals, performance, and oral history the Nkyinkyim Museum documents the twists and turns of a nation and of people that script details, nuance, and honesty to the narrative of Ghana and Africa.
