We commiserate with the victims, family and friends of the Texas school shooting and all those in conflict zones globally. No human, adult or child should grow up under such circumstances. Time to rethink sustainable contributions and solutions beyond the usual rhetoric.

May 25 is Africa Day, which marks the 1963 formation of the Organization of African Unity's (now AU). The focus of the 2022 commemoration is nutrition i.e. the diverse and nutritional value of indigenous African cuisine.

Elmina(St. George's) castle panaroma. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the oldest colonial castle in Ghana. Built by the Portuguese (first colonial settlers) in a coastal town they named 'El Mina' (meaning 'the mine') locally called Edina. Most African communities have a rich child naming culture based on birth circumstances, timing and order. The Ewes, Igbos, Shonas and Yoruba's readily come to mind. Among some ethnic groups in Ghana including the Akans, children beget names from the day of the week on which they were born. One of the reasons for this was to ensure that every child would have a name regardless of their birth circumstance.
