Hello Africa,

We are pleased to announce that The Hospitality Workshop & Cross Exposure is about to take place again.

The Hospitality Workshop & Cross Exposure on the island of Mauritius promotes hospitality based quality training, attitude, skills and knowledge. It sets out to produce seasoned players for the industry and equip them with the necessary skills to thrive. The workshop is jointly hosted by the teams Intrigued by Service (Ghana) and The Task Consulting Limited (Mauritius) which offer consultancy services to the Hospitality Industry in Mauritius and Africa. This programme will be held once every quarter, with the second session beginning on 2nd April 2018 . The workshop includes a practical experience in the hospitality industry and special emphasis can be given to the participants area of expertise or need. Please find below requested details and information.

The contents are as follows:

• Three-day Luxury Attitude Workshop
• Cross exposure in two five-star hotels on luxury standards
• Cross exposure in restaurants for wine knowledge and true gastronomy
• Workshop training on product knowledge and world hospitality standards
• Two full day tours around the coast of Mauritius

The rates which are partly subsidized by Task Consulting and Intrigued By Service are affordable at $1,950 for the entire 25-day programme and includes:

• Accommodation (Sharing)
• Meals (Breakfast and Dinner)
• Travel insurance
• Airport Transfers; cross exposure transfers & tours around the coast of Mauritius.
• Visas are not required for Ghanaians but immigration facilitation will be taken care of in the above.
• Actual Workshops & cross exposure in two five star hotels.

This excludes airfares which are approximately $1,650 on SAA & Emirates the last time we checked.

Participant Requirements:

• No history of drugs
• No criminal record
• Well groomed & disciplined participants
• Attire - black trousers and long sleeved plain coloured shirts during cross exposure sessions
• Black shoes and Belt

SEXUAL HARASSMENT
Sexual harassment has taken center stage in today's media following the shocking Hollywood revelations with Harvey Weinstein and now most recently the Oxfarm Haitian scandal. Lets face it the whole concept and idea of a hotel more or less has individuals acting out some fantasy .
Hotels unknowingly become the host to some of these activities in the case of the Dochester scandal . Recent studies in the UK on hospitality workers suggest an excess of 80% of those that responded to a survey reported experiencing one or more incidents of sexual harassment.
The hospitality industry, by its very nature, could be seen as the very culprits who commit these very unsettling acts. As we are often seen as creating the opportunity for such behaviour to exist and be encouraged. As the movement has highlighted the fact that society's response to such behaviour has changed so should the industry respond, not just with idealistic polices, but with affirmative action as well.

The Hotel Gym
The evolution of the hotel gym has been a remarkable one as the we went from the neon spandex loving 80's to athletic leisure wear in recent times. This only goes to show how much we have grown to appreciate the importance of exercise and spa sessions.
Unlike before where gyms and spas were an after thought they now are front and center.Some hotels are based on the spa and wellness concept as more and more clients are moving away from the opulence and rock and roll lifestyles and craving destinations and experiences that focus on their well - being not just their bodies but their minds and spirits.
Hoteliers need to recognize this change in their guest or they will be left behind. Hotel designers need to have these in mind when planning out a resort, from trails to studios, spas and retreats its all about the experience.

It’s 2017 and almost 2018. People are trying to be healthier and going through their annual cleanse. This is where F&B operations need to recognize the goldmine of new customers seeking to lets say eat their cake and have it.
The blogs are going to rip our pastry chef's hard work so get a head start ditch the refined sugars, double cream,butter and milk chocolates instead show you care about your guests and that you would want to see them in the coming year. Replace or substitute these ingredients such as dark chocolate, honey, nuts & berries and go gluten free if you must !
Whiles on your dessert cleanse do not alienate the traditional guest who wouldn't mind a bit of naughtiness in their desserts.
So what would you be swapping, taking off or keeping on that decadent Christmas dessert menu?

STAYCATIONS.
We over here at Intrigued By Service are strong advocates of "Staycations" i mean really think about it. If you didn't have the time to save for a trip or you've had all your leave days its fine to just stay back and explore what you think are your familiar surroundings.
Pointer one go eat at the restaurant you've been reading about.
Pointer two go by that museum you've heard of.
Th whole point of a vacation is to go exploring be it a shop, boat, chapel, forest reserve ,the point is to be different so don't let the fact that you are not miles away from home be a deterrent to rediscovering your surroundings.
As hoteliers our clients often look to us for the best places to hang out and to be they are more or less heavily reliant on what the locals say is the best to enrich their experiences. So if you ever run out of vacation days or just cant make that trip look around you what have you missed ? So "Staycation " yes or no

Architecture & Hotels
In the last couple of years we have witnessed the creation of remarkable works of arts in the form of Hotels. Architecture forms a part of the hotels's persona and character and always gives guests something to remember about the hotel.
Although it is a great thing to collaborate with an architect to bring to bring to life unique places for exceptional guest experience.
All these new ideas and joint ventures are all well and good but lets face it some hotels do take the design aspects a little too far. Avant garde , minimalist, maximalist concepts are all well and good but some hotels end up intimidating, alienating or worse scaring their guest with grandiose infrastructure.
Its great to have a signature style but as hoteliers are main concern is the guests comfort, safety and most importantly satisfaction.
Cast your mind way way back to your favorite hotels which ones which one had you clamoring for the door and which ones stole your breathe ?

THE DIGITAL TRAVELER , PROBLEM OR PERFECT GUEST !!

Hospitality as we all know has been a part of our very existence,
while the above is true the way guests make their choices, and assess their experiences has changed drastically .
One could then conclude because of their association with technology its changed the relationship between the consumer and the hotels . Well lets be truthful the guest is basically walking around with super computers as cell phones.
OTA's and booking sites may not own the properties but they sure do establish, maintain and control the relationships with the guest but pause take a deep breath, all hope is not lost .Technological leaps will continue to evolve the best hoteliers can do is not to fight this evolution but rather adapt to it and evolve with it by taking control and mastering their own digital platforms and never forgetting the heart of hospitality 'service'.

So what's your take on this subject ?
