The Stone Circles of The Gambia, part of the larger Senegambian Stone Circles, stand as silent witnesses to an ancient and sophisticated civilization. These megalithic monuments, found primarily in two main sites, Wassu and Kerr Batch, are part of the world's largest concentration of stone circles, with over 1,000 spread across Gambia and Senegal.
Recognised for their outstanding universal value, the Stone Circles of The Gambia were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006. Today, both Wassu and Kerr Batch sites offer visitors interpretation centres and museums, providing fascinating insights into ancient West African civilizations.
