Almyros Beach - long and sandy with gentle waves breaking on the shore, park amongst the dunes and find a quiet spot, great for when it’s hot as there’s usually a breeze

Almyros Beach is just 20 minutes drive north from us and at this time of the year you’ll find drifts of wild maritime alliums along the edge of the beach, I love them

When you get to Almyros Beach we turn right at the sign to George’s Taverna as that stretch of beach is quieter, if you want a bit more life turn left

Summer nights - we went to Old Perithia for supper last night, quiet and magical, special at any time but especially in the fading evening glow

We strolled around the upper path before heading down into the village, there were plenty of butterflies still around at 7.30pm for husband to count and identify for , a large tortoise and four pine martens seen too

We ate wondering why Thomas was to-ing and fro-ing with so many plastic water bottles, of course it wasn’t water in those bottles it was tsipouro

Morning views - 18 years on we’re still captivated by the view …

We first saw the house at Easter when the ground was carpeted in wild flowers and there was snow on in mountains in Albania, we’d been holidaying in Corfu for years and had come to see a house we’d stayed in previously that was now for sale, then we saw this house - lived in by 3 generations of a Greek family and very traditional, we loved it but it needed work, lots of work

I’ve just started watching Home Greek Home on Channel 4 following the restoration of Sarah’s house in Skiathos and I can tell you that yes renovating a house in Greece really is just like this

May is perfect for walking and it’s the month we fell in love with Corfu over twenty years ago - we’d walk up and down the coastal path for miles with two little toddlers in child carriers on our backs, my 70 odd year old in laws (who are now 96 and 97) would sometimes come too, we’d call in at waterside tavernas as and when we needed refreshments and a rest

This is Krouzeri - from Agni head south, the path winds its way between some very high end villas but before too long you’ll find a downward path leading to the pretty stone chapel of Agios Arsenios which you’ll recognise if you’re a Durrell’s fan, if you carry on you’ll come to Krouzeri and then Kaminaki

Heading to Acharavi to do some shopping, had to stop for a photo …

A couple of people have asked me about food shopping - there are smaller local supermarkets in Sinies and San Stefanos which are actually really well stocked with deli counters, good quality fresh produce and at Yiannis Supermarket in Sinies (which I describe to guests as a cross between and a village shop with a large dollop of local life and gossip) a really good wine selection but like any village shop the prices will be slightly higher, there’s a larger supermarket in the square in Kassiopi but parking is difficult so for a ‘big shop’ I tend to either shop at one of the large supermarkets in Corfu Town combining it with a trip to do something else in Town - AB is my personal favourite, there are a couple of other Greek chains and a Lidl too - or head to Acharavi which is 20 minutes from us as there two very good supermarkets there - Kazianis by the roundabout and Masoutis further up on the right which has an excellent butcher’s counter

Not forgetting the very good fishmonger and little bakery in Sinies too which sells delicious flat bread (ask for it) and the fabulous Pignata Patisserie (next door to Yiannis Supermarket) but I will warn you, that shop is dangerous, especially the homemade ice cream

Of course if you don’t want to be bothered with shopping then either Yiannis Supermarket will deliver or our Housekeeper is very happy to shop for you

Time for a swim I think …

This is Kerasia, between Kouloura and San Stefanos - we often walk there along the coastal path heading north from Kouloura - it’s only 20 minutes, longer if you stop to look at the wildflowers, butterflies and lizards of course.

If you fancy lunch there’s a traditional taverna too with all the simple Greek favourites

If I climb this steps I wonder what I’ll see …

A fabulous - and unusually for Corfu flat - walk around the Agia Ekaterini headland which is the most northerly point of Corfu, start either at the beach in Almiros or at Agios Spiridon

The circular walk takes a couple of hours, if you start at Almiros you can stop halfway at Agios Spiridon for a drink or lunch. Lots of swimming opportunities but wear good shoes as the path is rocky in places

If you’re staying we have lots of walking guides, this one is from The Sunflower Guide I think but it also takes in the final stage of The Corfu Trail
