Today on World Stray Animals Day we remember Spartan, who was abandoned on the roads of Sparta and left to fend for himself with a necrotic p***s at 38 years old. A stray horse. Which we had to travel a 1115km round trip to take him off the roads and into our shelter on Corfu.
Spartan passed away last May due to renal colic caused by the necrotic area. Because no one got him medical attention in time after the initial damage to his organs, when the problem first came up.
We hope and fight for a better future for all the animals of the world, particularly Greece, and specifically horses too as there are not that many of us fighting this battle to protect them. Raising awareness, educating, helping horses in the community with resources, volunteering, rescuing, rehabilitating and finding good homes through adoption is the way forward and is our personal aim at our rescue. Speak up when you see something you think isn’t right and don’t let anyone tell you that you’re wrong for caring about the welfare of animals. They need us and rely on us to do right by them. Be the change. Don’t wait for other people to do something… it starts with you.
