#Μονεμβασιά ή Μαλβαζία

Μερικές Χρήσιμες πληροφορίες που δε γνώριζες για τη Μονεμβασιά

⚱️Η όμορφη καστροπολιτεία της Λακωνίας έχει ρίζες από την εποχή των Σπαρτιατών. Ο βράχος της Μονεμβασιάς άρχισε να κατοικείται τον 6ο αιώνα πΧ ενώ ο Παυσανίας κάνει λόγο για την "Άκρα Μινώα", ένα ακρωτήρι που βρισκόταν απέναντι από την πόλη της Επιδαύρου Λιμηράς.

⛪️Κατά τη διάρκεια του 11ου και 12ου αιώνα, η Μονεμβάσια γνώρισε τεράστια ανάπτυξη. Ο Οικισμός αναπτύχθηκε σε όλο το βράχο ενώ μέσα στα πλαίσια του χτίστηκαν και όμορφες εκκλησίες όπως της Αγίας Σοφίας, την εκκλησία του Ελκομένου Χριστού και άλλες μικρότερες!

🗺Λόγω της γεωγραφικής της θέσης, αποτέλεσε το μήλο της έριδος ανάμεσα σε Οθωμανούς και Ενετούς σε όλη τη διάρκεια του Μεσαίωνα ενώ στις 23 Ιουλίου του 1821 η πολη βρέθηκε στους Έλληνες.

🏷Από τη δεκαετία του 1970 και έπειτα, η Μονεμβασια ακμάζει ως τουριστικός προορισμός και σήμερα αποτελεί ένα από τα πιο επισκέψιμα μέρη στην Πελοπόννησο!

📜Η ονομασία της πόλης “Μονεμβάσια” σημαίνει “μοναδική είσοδος” και οι Φράγκοι την αποκαλούσαν Μαλβαζία.

🏘Παλιά καλοσυντηρημένα αρχοντικά με τα οικόσημα και τις αψίδες, βαριές ξύλινες πόρτες, πλακόστρωτα καλντερίμια και περίπου σαράντα παλιές εκκλησιές, δημιουργούν ένα σκηνικό γαλήνης και νοσταλγίας. Η ειδυλλιακή Καστροπολιτεία της Λακωνίας διαιρείται σε δύο τμήματα: στην Άνω Πόλη, κτισμένη στο πλάτωμα της κορυφής του βράχου, ακατοίκητη σήμερα και στην Κάτω Πόλη που είναι κτισμένη στη νοτιοανατολική πλευρά του βράχου. Και οι δύο πόλεις περιβάλλονται από τείχη και επικοινωνούν μεταξύ τους με μια σκάλα λαξευμένη στο βράχο.

🍇Μαλβαζία έλεγαν και το αγαπημένο γλυκό κρασί των Βυζαντινών και Φράγκων. Στην τουρκοκρατία οι αμπελώνες της Μονεμβασιάς καταστράφηκαν, αλλά κάποια κλήματα “επέζησαν” στην Πάρο και την Κρήτη. Επίσης κάποια ταξίδεψαν στη Δύση Έτσι σήμερα τα συναντάμε σε Ισπανία και Πορτογαλία με άλλα ονόματα, όπως Malvoisie και Malmsey.

James also hosts watercolour workshops biannually in Kyparissi with limited places available. We will post details of James' next workshop as they come to hand.
