Crete has a long and rich beekeeping tradition dating back to Minoan times. The island's unique climate and diverse flora provide ideal conditions for beekeeping, and Cretan honey is prized for its exceptional quality and flavor.

Mr Thodoris' honey is produced in the White Mountains of Crete, near the Samaria Gorge. The area's pristine environment and abundance of wildflowers contribute to the honey's unique taste and aroma.
Thodoris is a passionate beekeeper who is dedicated to producing the highest quality honey possible. He uses traditional beekeeping methods and is committed to sustainable practices.

Thodoris keeps beehives in other parts of the prefecture as well – he is, after all, the president of the Chania Beekeepers' Association – but the Samaria beehive is special in many ways and has a special significance for him, as it is the birthplace of his father.

It has been inhabited since the Neolithic period.
The cave was used as a refuge during the Turkish occupation of Crete.
In 1823, it was the site of a massacre of Greek civilians by Ottoman forces.
