Ancient wine carafe known as «οινοχοή» (e-no-hoe). Used for serving wine in symposia (symposiums). Nowadays we decant wines in carafes when they are of age in order to let them “breathe” and release their aromas better. Decanting can also take place for full bodied aged white wines and also for vintage Champagnes.

This is a great Monday start under the Attica sun. Our wine friends enjoyed the grape and wine stories of Gikas Winery.

🍇 Gikas has a fascinating winemaking journey which began in 1875

🍇 This winegrowing tradition continued throughout the 20th century. As the city of Athens expanded and industry grew with it to surrounding areas, the Gikas family relocated its winegrowing area beyond the plains of Attica in Spata to the fertile hills and valleys of Viotia.

🍇 Today, its prized vineyards lie at the slopes of Mount Kithairon marking a new era for winegrowing in what is considered one of Central Greece's best wine-growing regions.

🇬🇷
