While the precise human discovery of wine will forever remain a mystery, it is certainly an ancient one.

Evidence, such as the recent archaeological discovery of ceramic wine storage casks in the present-day country of Georgia, suggests that viniculture dates back at least 8,000 years.

The Discovery of this “magic juice” with its mind-altering effects, most certainly had a profound impact on our ancestors.

In the sixth century BC, the Phocaeans brought grapevines from Greece to Massalia (modern-day Marseille) in southern France.

The wines they produced were, again, field blends of white and red grapes. Naturally light in colour, these pleasant pink wines soon were talked about around the Mediterranean.

When the Romans landed later in Provence, they had already heard all about the pink wines of Massalia.
They took these coveted wines and used their super-connected trade networks to make them popular around the Mediterranean.

As a result, the south of France is considered the epicentre of rosé even today.

🍷Ancient Greece & Massalia 🍷

Many of the first recorded wines were rosé, light libations made by watering downfield blends of combined white and red grapes.

In ancient Greece, it was considered civilized to dilute wine. There was a widespread belief that only barbarians—drunkards who r***d and murdered—drank pure wine.

The Spartan King Cleomenes I, who was driven to insanity and eventually committed su***de in a prison cell, even claimed that drinking undiluted wine led to his downfall.

In the glass a clean white with clear lemon yellow colour. On the swirl, aromas rise with citrus lemon, yellow peaches/ nectarine, pineapple, and white flowers. ⁠
On the sip, flavours echo aromas on a medium body, medium (+) acidity and a lovely, elegant, creamy, long finish. Did I mention I fell in love? 😉❤️⁠

The nose is fresh with great elegance and finesse, cool herbal notes mixed with yellow fruits, especially apples and peach, orange zest and ripe grapefruit too.

On the palate elegant acidity, very noble, slightly creamy, herbs, slightly metallic, juicy citrus and grapefruit, some flint elements, elegant complexity.

Finishes spicy and joyful with rich and juicy fruit notes, flint spiciness.

Wine gathering ❤️

You’ve seen a lot of photos of people smelling their wine — right? The aromas of the wine are diverse and often tell us a lot about a wine’s grapes before we even take a sip!

Recognize everything from citrus to vanilla, stages of the winemaking process, and chemical changes that take place as a wine age.

In our wine tastings, we always say that whatever we smell. Maybe this is why we take a few really deep sniffs to try to get as many aromas from my glass as possible;
