Kindred Volunteer

Kindred Volunteer Kindred Volunteer’s founders are individuals with extensive experience in the field of intecultural exchange, as both participants and laborers.

Kindred Volunteer arises from the need to help Guatemala and other developing countries to succeed by providing friendly and unbiased hands through intercultural exchange to help them get up and start walking on their own. They are convinced that only by ties of friendship and providing the means for it, is it possible that the more developed nations can help the less fortunate to achieve the same

opportunities for everyone. Intercultural exchange provides the knowledge of people respecting and learning from each other to achieve understanding and awareness of differences, and through this understanding help to make a better world. The founders have worked with several organizations dedicated to intercultural understanding, both through student exchanges and working with foreign organizations dedicated to helping, promoting and supporting the development of the less fortunate. www.kindredvolunteer.org

Last week was Día de los Mu***os and marigolds play an important part of the celebration. In Guatemala, families cover the freshly-painted graves of their loved ones with these petals, so that their family members who have passed on can return.

This group spent the week making early literacy phonics and counting manipulatives that will be used countless times in the classrooms at Escuela Pacaja. We have projects that volunteers of any age and ability can help with. Interested in volunteering with us? Please let us know!

Each week, we will be posting something about Guatemala, Quetzaltenango (Xela), or Kindred Volunteer. We hope that you enjoy getting to know more about Guatemala, and please contact us if you are interested in our volunteer program.

This week, in honor of El Día de la Revolución, we are posting this article that was in La Prensa here in Xela. Both of these men have come to speak about their experiences during the war with volunteers at the Kindred Volunteer house. Please cut and paste into whatever translation app or website you use if you cannot read Spanish.
