🧡 BnB, Farm, Life Update 🧡 We’ve been more quiet lately on social media but definitely not quiet or still in our day to day life. 🌱
In addition to running our BnB, backyard farm, I am now a full time teacher at a local school. 🫶🏼 You KNOW I’m looking for a way to bring one of my hens to my classroom. 🐓
I do not feel the need to justify or explain myself BUT I am going to share my reasons because most people don’t understand what’s happening to farmers around the world. 🧑🌾
Our profits from farming never came close to paying the bills or even our feed bill for our chickens. It has always been about the love of fresh food and sharing with our community while educating locals & guests. The Airbnb has been and continues to be the vehicle that connects us with people so we can share this love. ❤️ Our Airbnb is growing, thriving and not going anywhere.
In May 2023, Mawar a category 4 Typhoon hit our island with 140 + mph winds and sat over our village for a day. I grew up with hurricanes so this experience wasn’t new to me but the aftermath broke my heart. 💔 Our home, BnB, family, animals and bees were safe but our plants, farm structures, coops, fences were destroyed. I saw & felt first hand what natural disasters are doing to farmers and experienced the helplessness knowing there was zero financial support to recover our years of hard work and blood, sweat and tears.
We grieved our losses, took a deep breath & and slightly altered plan. I am the queen of pivot!!! Regrow & rebuild the farm slowly & accept a job offer that protects my family financially should this happen again. 💪🏽 Now I can expand my farming, gardening, & conservation education to a new part of the community. 🪴
Since Mawar, we focused on planting 14 fruit trees & vines, rebuilding our farm structures & healing. We have not replanted our two 2 foot garden beds yet but are seeking volunteers. 😊
We are here. We are hopeful. We are strong. We are still growing. Feel free to share our story & this post.
