Odaki-Medaki Waterfalls 🌸🌿🌊🍃
Odaki-Medaki Waterfalls 🌸🌿🌊🍃
Odaki-Medaki, the Male and Female Waterfalls, echo Japanese philosophy virtue of harmony and nature's gender duality. Traditionally, Odaki represents masculinity with its powerful, robust flow, while Medaki embodies femininity with its gentle, cascading descent.

Experience feudal history at Hikone Castle and Museum 🏯🎌🏞️
One of five castles listed as a Japanese Nation Treasure and an iconic location for period films including ‘Shogun’ (1980). The castle stands as an impressive political and military symbol of the Edo period. The nearby museum contains a reconstruction of old Omote Goten Hall, which was the main government offices of Hikone domain and the daimyo (lord of the domain) living quarters. Containing an example of a traditional garden that the daimyo and his visitors would’ve enjoyed. Hikone Castle features on Walk Japan’s flagship day Nakasendo Way Tour, learn more at walkjapan.com.

This travel update is from 1400 JST - Wednesday, 28 September 2022
The Japanese government has confirmed that from Tuesday, 11 October 2022, short-term visitors from all 68 countries previously eligible for a visa waiver will once again be permitted visa-free entry to Japan. Inbound arrivals will need either to be vaccinated three times with a WHO-approved vaccine or submit a pre-arrival negative result for a Covid-19 test, taken 72 hours before departure.
We are delighted at the impending resumption of fully independent visa-free travel, and look forward to welcoming you to Japan.

Travel update from 1300 JST - Monday, 5 September 2022
From September 7, 2022, Japan will accept applications for tourist visas from travellers joining both guided and self-guided package tours.
Due to unprecedented demand, obtaining a visa is currently a lengthy process for many customers. Accordingly, we have made the decision to fully restart self-guided tours from Tuesday, 1 November, 2022. All customers with self-guided tour bookings prior to this date are invited to either rebook or accept a full refund.
If your tour is affected by this we will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
Customers booked on self-guided tours due to start on or after Tuesday, 1 November, 2022, as well as all guided tour customers, should, if they have not already done so, contact their local Japanese embassy or consulate to confirm visa processing times. Walk Japan's affiliate The Japan Travel Company (JTC) is a Japanese-registered and licensed travel company. Through JTC we are able to provide Walk Japan customers who have completed our online manifest form with the "certificate for completion of Registration to the ERFS system" and the further information necessary for a visa application.
Please note that we are unable to offer any assistance with visa applications for independent travel. We continue to monitor the situation, and are hopeful that restrictions preventing fully independent visa-free travel to Japan will not remain in place for too much longer.

30 Years Walking Japan - Ryokichi's favourite memory - “Emperor’s official welcome of
Newly assigned Ambassadors to Japan”
One day on a Tokyo Tour in 2019 we were walking by the imperial palace when suddenly a parade of horses and carriages appeared.
It turns out that we were fortunate enough to see the welcome parade for the newly assigned ambassadors of Norway and Angola.
The Government and Imperial Household agency hosted this welcome parade but for security reasons it was kept top secret, we didn't know anything about it - it just happened to be our lucky day.
20% off all Self-guided Wayfarer tours at Walk Japan until 30th June 2022, for residents of Japan.
Spring is a great time to explore Japan on foot - the Kumano, Nakasendo and Tokaido are amongst our self-guided offerings.
