At English class we love to keep in touch with the outdoors, what season it is and what wonderful gifts nature is providing. In summer we explored our senses looking, smelling and tasting citrus. ๐๐๐โ๐ฉAs we have slowly moved into the colder season, we have been observing what is changing ๐๐๐ฐ and had a great deal of creative fun making nature figures. After being gifted some rather delicious candy from our staff from the UK, we had to have a Halloween party and enjoy some western tradition, if you can call Halloween a tradition ๐ค

Itโs been just over a year since we started English classes. Together with the kids and their families we have built a safe environment to foster an interest and respect for both English and nature. We have fun learning and experiencing together, building relationships, all while learning English in a more natural way ๐คธโโ๏ธ๐ฟ
Sometimes we sing, sometimes we read stories, other times we team up with the other members to learn about rice growing. Education should never be underestimated or under valued. Both our children and our natural world are closely linked and hold weight for the future. Thatโs why itโs a joy to be a part of this special project๐ฒ๐พ

Shishi-Odori - The Ancient Deer Dance ๐ฆ
Shishi-Odori is a traditional folk performing art originating in the Sendai Domain (now Iwate and Miyagi prefectures) that can be dated back over 400 years.
Performers transform into forms of deer with long bamboo sticks called 'sasara' on the back. Each performer carries a taiko drum at their waist while singing and dancing to the folk song.
Date Masamune, the samurai lord in Tohoku at that time, was so fond of the dance that he requested the troupes to perform every year at the Aoba Castle. Since then, Shishi-Odori has become an important tradition and has been designated as Miyagi Prefecture's Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
