My closest friend always tells me to "enjoy the process" and not worry too much about the outcome. To me this is the very essence of climbing. Totally enjoyed the first three attempts on this stellar line called "Exhale, 7A" here in Thailand a varied climb with crimps, laybacks, gastons and a crux dyno. Each attempt was to figure out one specific move and trying to understand how to do it with the least amount of exertion. The forth attempt was a bit like sitting in Church, closest thing to meditation. I was completely focused on what I had learned and resting after every hard pull and breathing from the inside. When I reached the final crux I was surprisingly rested and deep inside I knew that I would get it this time. Clipping the chains was the sweetest moment - onsights be damned. I'm happy to learn with multiple attempts.

I don't read French, even if that's actually French but I'm pretty sure it means "quit your job"! And even though I'll probably never manage a trip to "The Valley" with the stupid US visa system these days for brown people. But sitting by myself in a remote Thailand village on my way to Krabi, watching the world go by - I can only wonder how blessed I am to be able to quit my job and travel. As everyone tells me I'm living the dream and yes I'm really fortunate. And yes it did take 3 years of saving up but in reality it's not that hard. We have but just one life - live it without regrets.

I just realized that this guy and I have 120 mutual friends on Facebook. Now that's not necessarily a big deal but it's an amazing indicator of our travels. Cos the places we go and the people we meet make us who we are. And while this guy, "The Master" has been doing this much longer than I have - it's always super fun sitting down and listening to his many stories. He is working very hard to put China climbing on the world map and deliver world class content at the same time. Working solo, he shoots, edits, produces and manages distribution all by himself. Head to China Climbing Documentary Project for a taste if you aren't following him already. I got an early glimpse of his latest project and I can tell you it can easily be a ReelRock contender next year.

Last year this time I was an average 5.10A climber. After a year of training, I'm still very average but happy to get on 5.12A. Staying away from the project game and focusing on personal growth has made me realize that at the end of the day all that matters is ...... keep climbing!

Happy birthday to me!
Today is probably the best birthday of my life cos this time I'm jobless and traveling the world following my passion: climbing. It took only 15 years of 9-6 and saving enough money to get here. And it won't last. But this time next year, I'll look back and say - yes, I made it happen!

Ever since the Petzl Roctrip 2011 video, I've always wanted to visit Getu myself. Finally got the chance thanks to the new HK-China high-speed railway link. Trip made even more special with my first 5.12A onsight!

For an amateur climber like me, a trip to Squamish is a dream come true. Can't believe I enjoy trad climbing so much that I don't miss clipping bolts anymore. Enough climbing here for a lifetime, but hopefully I can come back someday.

Sometimes all you can do is stand and stare. Nature always manages to fill you with awe. It proves every time how small and inconsequential we really are.

Nothing is more satisfying than crack climbing, specially if you are in Liming. Here's baby Ashley recommending a #4 for those amazing offwidths. Miss my time unwinding at the Stone Drum House in Shigu - awesome limestone sport climbing an hour away from Liming.

2 years ago when I first visited KL, I didn't realize that this pretty piece of rock in the middle of the rainforest next to a uppity housing estate would become one of my favorite climbing destinations in Asia. And I made some of the most amazing friends in this part of the world.
Kudos to the stellar work by the Malaysian Bolting Fund in Takun.

It's been a month since I quit my job, so trying to figure out my mental state. I have to say I've never been happier. I don't miss the 925, nor the boring daily routine. Sometimes you gotta give up your comfort zone to really find joy.
If you wanna follow your heart, just do it. Never settle. You have only one life and time is running out.

Quick weekend away checking out the brand new development at Swallow Cave in Huangfa, Qingyuan. Easy approach and a very short hike amidst the usual karst landscape and chicken farms. Currently only a handful of routes with shiny bling bling bolts but potential for a lot more including possible pure cave climbs a la Thor's Hammer in Flatanger, Norway.
