🐋 Read @alexlindbloomphoto story below! 👇🏽 ⛴️The first time I saw a blue whale it was a completely surreal experience. I was sitting on the back of the boat with my fins in the water just waiting for the animal to surface before we dropped in. Heart was pounding 💓Brain was on a constant loop of, “I’m about to swim with a blue whale, I’m about to swim with a blue whale, I’m about to swim with a blue...” 🐋 📣“WHALE!” the captain shouted All of a sudden the whale’s absolutely massive backside emerged from the water, just meters from our boat. We were quickly given the order to drop in, and there it was. Twenty-plus meters of blue whale bathed in the morning’s dappled light as this beautiful being started its slow descent beneath us. 🐋 The moment only lasted a few seconds, but when the largest animal to ever have lived is swimming beneath you, a few seconds felt like a few minutes and every image you’re able to get is a prized possession. 🤿 Ultimate liveaboard in Komodo! 🚢

The biggest hammerheads in our ocean!

Different from other hammerheads, the Great Hammerhead is solitary and travels the oceans alone. Did you know that female hammerheads are larger than males? These large female hammerheads like to come in Winter to the balmy and very productive waters of the Bahamas. While you can find them in different locations the highest frequency of sightings is in Bimini, a small island cluster which lies between Florida and Bahamas O𝐮𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 is going both Tiger Beach and Bimini so you can be guaranteed to see Tiger Sharks and Great Hammerheads, as well as Bulls, Nurses and Lemons! 5 Tips to swim with whales 🐋

1️⃣Do not disturb the whales! Each and every encounter has to be done “under the whale’s terms’’. The boat should approach slowly and stay parallel to the animals for a while running on low revolutions (it is crucial to choose responsible local operators who will follow these rules). 2️⃣Enter the water quietly. Avoid splashing as it would scare the whales ✋🏽💦Use your fins gently and always keep them underwater. 3️⃣Be careful not to splash with your fins. Keep them well underwater or swim sideways. A weight belt can help to keep your legs under the water line. 4️⃣Wait for the whale to come to you. Hopefully the operator has dropped you well ahead. Wait really relaxed. When the whale approaches, move slowly and minimally. While swimming with them, stay parallel and don’t interfere with their swim path 🐋 5️⃣Keep a safe distance in between the whale and yourself and don’t touch, please! 🙂 Was this post helpful? A male can weigh as much as 60 tons!Their brains are also the largest in the animal kingdom. 🌊 Dominica is the only place in the world with resident sperm whales that stay there all year round.
