We’ve received several messages and calls asking about our well-being during Hurricane Beryl. We are blessed to say that we are safe🙏🏻. We've had some much-needed rain, but otherwise, we’re fine. The animals are happy and enjoying the rain!😄
Thank you for showing us your love and concern for our wellbeing.🤗

Our thoughts and prayers are with our fellow islanders in Barbados, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands who have been affected by Hurricane Beryl🙏🏻.

One of my favorite things about checking in on the wellbeing of the animals at night, apart from seeing their sleepy faces, is getting to see the blue land crabs. That call the hangout their home.
There was a time when the island was filled with them. Unfortunately, due to landfills, overhunting, and new predators like raccoons moving in, their population has decreased significantly.
Blue crabs play a vital role in the island’s ecosystem. They help clean up by eating decaying matter. At the hangout they love all the fruit left over by the monkeys. If you’ve been to the hangout, you might have noticed the holes in the ground. Those are their homes!
And if you’re wondering, Yes, they do pinch pretty hard if bothered!

Dear Community and Friends,

We are reaching out to you with heavy hearts to ask for your help. Two members of the Hangout family, Patrick and Nexie, have recently been affected by devastating fires.

Patrick, who has been with us from the very beginning and is like a brother to us, recently lost his vehicle due to faulty wiring and the hot temperatures we've been experiencing. If you’ve visited our location and had the privilege of having him as a guide, you know his love for the animals is undeniable.

Nexie, a dedicated team member for over 7 years, always greets you with a smile. She recently lost the majority of her home to fire. What wasn't burned was destroyed by water and smoke.

Our Goal:
We aim to raise $30,000 to be shared equally between Patrick and Nexie to help rebuild their lives. In a country where insurance is a luxury not affordable to most, our sense of community in times of need is all we can depend upon.
