In recent years, there has been a common perception that prices in Istria have increased significantly, making this beautiful Mediterranean destination less accessible than in the past.
This perception has certainly been fueled by clickbait headlines and overly superficial articles. Let's try to analyze the price dynamics in Istria more closely to understand whether prices have really increased uncontrollably, as is often claimed, or if the extent of these increases is being greatly exaggerated.

𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬

Most shops and venues have adjusted prices consistently with the inflation of recent years. Prices this summer have not increased compared to last year; in some cases, they have even decreased, indicating a market striving to maintain a sustainable and competitive balance.

The difference between those who think in terms of medium to long term and those who think in immediate terms is clear here.
Are the "opportunists" making more than they should? Yes, certainly.
Will they continue to be able to do this in the future? No, because the market, through self-regulation, will penalize them.
Are these "opportunists" tarnishing the entire Istrian tourism sector? Unfortunately, yes.

In recent years, Istria has seen an increase in the quality of roads, public transport, healthcare facilities, and tourist attractions. These investments have made the region more attractive and comfortable for visitors, undoubtedly justifying some price increases.

Sometimes, "historical tourists" lament price increases.
“I have been coming to Istria every year since the 90s, and current prices are incredibly higher." How could it be otherwise? Do we really want to compare the infrastructure and services that Istria offered in the 90s with those of today? Let's be serious, it wouldn't even make sense to compare the services and infrastructure that Istria offered just 5 or 6 years ago with those of today.

While keeping its traditions and culture alive, Istria is increasingly becoming a European country. I'm not referring to the introduction of the euro and the adherence to the Schengen Agreement, but to the aforementioned improvement in infrastructure and services. From this perspective, today Istria has nothing to envy to other Mediterranean countries, including Italy, Spain, and Greece. This doesn't mean there aren't further improvements to be made. The central and local governments are well aware of this and continue to approve funding aimed precisely at this purpose.
