All the three-island group tours to the Elafites spend only 45 minutes on Kolocep, but from the start it was my favorite island of the three, so we went back for a longer visit. And I’m so glad we did (!)

There is a quiet, peaceful, sleepy vibe that invites rest and relaxation as you spend the day lazing about the beach or while away the hours at one of the cafes on the marina (the tuna steak in the photo was one of the best I’ve had since coming to Croatia).

If you’re a nature-lover like me, there are stunning views and trees and plants of all varieties; and if you’re up for a longer walk past the Villa Rosa, you will even stumble upon a n**e beach, which offers an even more secluded and peaceful atmosphere on an already semi-deserted feeling Kolocep island.

And the ferry ride back to mainland during sunset was a perfect wrap-up for an already fantastic day.

Kolocep. Highly recommend it. 👌🏾

Croatia ranked # 15 on the Condé Nast list of world’s best countries to travel to.

And to top that off, “Two Croatian cities recently ranked among the world’s most trending destinations in 2022 according to TripAdvisor.
Dubrovnik was ranked 5th and Split was ranked 13th in the world.”

No surprise there 😁

Croatia has been ranked among the world’s best countries to travel to in the Conde Nast Traveller Reader's Choice Awards for 2022. Europe dominated this year’s awards across most categories and they made up a large portion of the best countries to travel to, which are voted for by readers of the...

Fantastic Korcula has much to offer; thick with vineyards and rich nature, replete with wineries and great restaurants—many of them serving organic food often grown right on the premises—and of course, the charming old town with its narrow streets, Marco Polo’s house, and food and drink options galore. I could spend a week on this island just exploring the many wineries and agrotourism restaurants.

Highly recommended is a fantastic restaurant called Maha Konoba. It is located on a ranch and the food, service, and ambiance were simply exceptional.

This magical island certainly deserves many more visits.

When I first stumbled into old town, still chilled to the bone and quite exhausted from my travels through Italy and Turkey, I knew practically nothing about Dubrovnik and Croatia (as I am somewhat ashamed to admit).

But I was pleasantly surprised. Shocked even. “What is this magical place, and why haven’t I come here sooner?” I thought to myself. Then I saw an entrance with a staircase that said “The City Walls,” and I walked in and up, and up some more, and there was a man in the window, in the wall, who collected a large sum of money from me and in return handed me a ticket.

And so I just kept walking, and the views kept getting better and better. They were breathtaking, actually. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing—the sparkling Adriatic stretching into infinity; impenetrable fortresses guarding its shores like silent sentinels, with a sea of orange rooftops spilling out at their feet; a city within a city like no other.

And just like that, I was in love. And still am.

And today, I am still here in Dubrovnik, and my Croatian adventure story is still being written.

To be continued…..

Yelena.

Sunset in Srebreno 💖

“If it’s beaches and glorious nature you are after, then take a trip to the stunning Srebreno. With semi-sandy beaches that are perfect for children, a host of eateries and café bars and numerous water sport opportunities, Srebreno certainly has some of the best beaches in the Dubrovnik region.

Located in the borough of Župa, just south of Dubrovnik, Srebreno has a rich and interesting history. It was first mentioned in writing in 1272. The name Srebreno come from the historical name “Sub Burnum” which literally translates as “under Župa.” In fact, coins and amphorae have been unearthed from Roman times suggesting that Srebreno had a history long before the 13th century.” (The Dubrovnik Times)

Happy Friday and a great weekend to all! 🥂

I‘ve been hearing so much about Korcula since coming to Croatia that it was at the top of my list of places to visit. I finally made it there and after wandering around the narrow streets, charming shops, and restaurants aplenty, I realized that this was a just a small taste of this beautiful, historically intriguing place (hello Marco Polo’s house!), and that I must come back for another visit. I wasn’t too sad to leave though, because next stop was a really nice winery in Pelesjac (a peninsula not far from central Dubrovnik known for its many vineyards and wineries). We got to sample some excellent white, rosé, and red wine, along with many flavorful, delicious liqueurs.
If you want help arranging a private or group tour to the island of Korcula, followed by wine tasting on Peljesac peninsula, contact Dubrovnik Experience and they’ll make all the arrangements for you.

If you want to get off the beaten track and immerse yourself in unspoiled nature and total peace that feels like you’re the only people on earth, rent a boat and tell your skipper to take you to Mljet island. It lies just a bit further away from Dubrovnik than the Elafites and there is plenty of natural beauty and good food to enjoy for a whole day. Or two… ☺️

According to Time magazine, Mljet is one of the world’s ten most beautiful islands, and the only one of the ten that’s located in Europe.

“In the past, Mljet had many names and rulers, and the oldest one, from the age of Homer and the Odyssey, is Ogygia—the magical island.” (Antun Tonko Vojvoda). And it just so happens that one of the main attractions on the island is the Odysseus Cave. According to legend, Mljet is the island on which Odysseus was held captive for seven years by the nymph Calipso, who fell in love with him.

Dubrovnik Experience can do all the work of arranging your idyllic Mljet island getaway, so all you have to do is relax and enjoy your tranquil escape from all the worries of the world. Ahhhh…. 🥰

The stunning Elafite islands, also known simply as the Elafites, are a small archipelago a short boat ride from Dubrovnik.

There are many ways to see the Elafites. You can take a ferry and explore them on your own, you can join a group tour, or you can rent a private speedboat and have your skipper custom-tailor the trip to your particular interests and preferences.

The island of Lopud’s sandy beach Sunj and Dominican monastery, Kolocep island village and hiking trails, and the gorgeous natural landscapes and peaceful, secluded atmosphere of Sipan island are not to be missed.

There is a reason why this is one of the most popular, must-do experiences for those who have at least a few days to spend in Dubrovnik.

Whether you choose to join a group tour or to charter a private boat, Dubrovnik Experience can help you make the arrangements for an unforgettably good time.

The beautiful Peljesac peninsula with its abundance of oyster and mussel farms and vineyards and wineries—a trip I loved and will never forget. 🙂
I’m usually tempted to learn more about a place after visiting it if it charmed or intrigued me in some way. The medieval city of Ston and the peninsula have had that effect on me, and so I went googling. 👀
Apparently, Pelesjac has been continuously inhabited all the way since the Paleolithic period, “Continuity of human life on Pelješac (Pell-yeh-shatz) can be traced from the Neolithic period till our days. Quite likely, the peninsula was inhabited even in the earlier, Paleolithic, period” (Dr. Nenad Jasprica).

So if you love oysters, wine, and ancient history, this is the tour for you. 🙂

One of the best ways to explore Croatia is by boat. Nothing beats moving from spot to spot down the coastline, mooring in different gorgeous places, exploring craggy caves and coves, swimming in the warm Adriatic, and then—tired but happy—watching from the water as the sun sets behind the horizon.
We had a fantastic day of making happy memories while cruising down the coastline from Dubrovnik to the Elaphiti islands, stopping first by Kolocep island, then Lopud. The unforgettable colors of the sea and the coastline will stay in my memory (and my phone ) forever. 💙

I thought Sveti Jakov beach was eye candy, but yesterday we drove a bit out of central Dubrovnik to the Konavle region (about 35-45 minutes depending on traffic) to Pasjaca Plaza, and all I can say is "wow!"

I couldn’t stop ooh-ing and ahh-ing and taking photos as we walked past the fragrant pines and out onto the rocky pathway leading down to the beach.

Pasjaca beach is surrounded by rugged cliffs and as you walk down to the water you encounter absolutely stunning views (photos don't even do it justice, but I tried 🙂 ) There are caves, coves, and big flat rocks further away from shore that you can swim up to and rest on top of, that make it seem as though you're treading the water's surface. And the water was such a welcome refreshment in yesterday's heat that we spent most of the time in the sea.

Although it's unique location means there are no restaurants or cafes in the immediate vicinity of this beach, a short drive away there are plenty of konobas and cafes (as well as wineries and agrotourism spots that the Konavle region is known for) that deserve to be paid a visit.

I absolutely recommend taking the drive out to this magical spot if you have a few days to kill in Dubrovnik. 🙂
