Friday = Fish Day! 🐟🇭🇷
In Croatia, Friday is fish day, a beloved tradition. Many families and restaurants serve fresh fish and seafood, often from local fishermen. Think of grilled sardines, octopus or a delicious brudet (stew).

The tradition of “Friday fish day” in Croatia has its roots in religion and culture. It is strongly connected to the Christian (mainly Catholic) tradition, which prescribes not to eat meat on Fridays as a form of fasting or penance. Fish was seen as a suitable alternative and therefore became a popular dish on this day.
In Croatia, where the Catholic faith is deeply rooted, this custom has grown into a cultural practice. It became not only a religious practice, but also a social moment where families and friends would come together to enjoy fish and seafood dishes. The proximity of the Adriatic Sea, rich in fresh fish, has further strengthened this tradition.
Today, the tradition is kept alive by many, both by religious Croats and by people who simply share a love for good fish dishes.
A moment to enjoy simplicity, taste and a touch of Adriatic culture together!
