Hungarian gray cattle formed harems
At the Sóstó Animal Farm of the Körös-Maros National Park Administration, the breeding of Hungarian gray cattle has been taking place since the beginning of February.
We are confident that the cows will present us with beautiful calves in the next calving season as well.
A total of 262 females - cows and student heifers - were included in the harem. Depending on the size of the stables, the number of harems created also varies. The largest of the five harems has 110 cows, and the other four have 40-50 cows.
Each harem has a bull. During one season, the harem is covered by the same bull continuously, it can only be changed if the bull is injured or has some health problem.
In the harems, the young calves born during the calving season, which lasts from November to January, are also together with their mothers. The bulls are not bothered by the presence of the calves, they are not hurt.
The bull herd of the Körös-Maros National Park Administration consists of 21 individuals. For the period of breeding from February 1st to April 15th, five bulls were sent to the Sóstó Animal Farm and four to the Montág-Puszta Animal Farm.
