Some-minute walk from the famous Great Synagogue, a bit hidden in a narrow street, you can find another magnificient Jewish building.
Rumbach synagogue (completed in 1872, designed by Viennese architect Otto Wagner) was ordered by those who had found Dohany street synagogue too large and too modern. They wanted a more intimate space, with the Bimah placed in the center, both physically and spiritually.
After the last renovation Rumbach synagogue reopened as a museum. A very cleverly done, informative exhibition is on the top floor. Visitors can learn about the history of Hungarian Jewry through the 300-year story of Politzer family.
