Get your mind of death by visiting Trunyan Village. This is where Bali’s ‘original’ people (Bali Aga or Bali Mula) live, at the edge of Lake Batur. Trunyan Village practices a very untraditional funeral ceremony by leaving their dead to decompose under a Banyan tree. The dead body will be covered with nothing but cloth and a bamboo cage. Once decomposed, skulls are collected and assembled on a special altar. FUN FACT, people believed that the Banyan tree has the power to absorb the putrid smell of decomposing corpses. We’d ask you to trust us on this, visiting Trunyan Village is a whole new ‘tourism’ for you.
