Balangan : one of the most beautiful beach on Bukit peninsula. Located in the south, about 45 min from the villa. It is easy to go there for a day starting with Uluwatu temple and spending the whole day at Balangan beach.

These monsters are supposed to attract evil spirits. They will be burnt later. All the villagers have contributed to their building and all the village is proud to display them. This is a strong feeling of community and happiness before the silence that will follow tomorrow.

Nyepi Dates in 2016 - Balinese New Year

Su, 6th Mar - Melati : Nyepi festivities start

Tu, 8th Mar - Nyepi Eve : Ogoh Ogoh Parades all over the island starting late afternoon, till late at night.

We, 9th Mar - Nyepi Day : Day of Silence - complete 24h shutdown of the island beginning 6 am, including airport!

Th, 10th Mar - 6.am : life goes back to (almost) normal, temple ceremonies and celebrations everywhere. Meditation and reflection.

Suggestion for a day trip to Ubud and its surroundings. We tried it today and it is really worth going!
Start with Monkey Forest, Ubud center (market and temples), have a lunch in a warung facing Tegalalang rice paddy fields followed by a walk in this wonderful place. Finish with a visit to Tirta Empul temple.
Timing : 9 am to 7 pm (from the villa).

BALI TEMPLES AND THE VILLA

Pura is the balinese word for temple.

No visit to Bali would be complete without a trip to see at least one or more wonderful temples.
The three temples here can be seen within a single trip from the villa.

The nearest from the villa is Tanah Lot (16.5 km / 35 min). This towering and picturesque Pura is one of the most popular in Bali.

Uluwatu Temple (26 km / 45 min from the villa). Situated on Bukit peninsula, this temple is believed to be one of Bali’s spiritual pillars. Perched on the top of a steep cliff, like Tanah Lot, this pura offers magnificent and unforgettable sunsets. The surrounding forest is full of malicious monkeys. Mind your sunglasses and bags!

Ulun Danu Temple (54 km / 1:30 hour from the villa) : a bit farther than the other temples, Ulun Danu is on the edge of Baratan Lake. This temple gives the impression of floating of the water and really has something mythical. It is one of the island’s most iconic sanctuary.
What can be visited on the same day : Jatiluwih Rice Fields (appointed as one of the world heritage by UNESCO)

This restaurant, situated in a small street in Ubud, inspired from this definition and concept : all the ingredients used to cook are local. 21st March : NYEPI

This holiday is the Balinese New Year called Icaka New Year, the day of total silence throughout the island. No activity, no traffic at all on the roads, no fire may be lit for 24 hours.
Great purification and sacrificial rites are held the day before so as to exorcize evil spirits from every corner of the island.
Ogoh ogoh is the time for the first sighting of the fearsome Ogoh-Ogoh – huge papier-mache effigies of evil monsters. Ogoh Ogoh are carried through towns and villages in a traditional procession to the cacophony of deafening claxons, gamelan music, drummers music. The basic idea is to make as much noise as possible for scaring off all evil spirits. In the evening (dark) these effigies are ceremoniously burnt. Dancing, drinking and feasting takes place in a rather chaotic fashion, all with the aim of driving these evil spirits far, far awayonto another island.

Le Nyepi est le nouvel an balinais. Il s’agit d’une journée de silence, de jeûne et de meditation. Le silence est observé pendant 24 heures à partir de 6 heures du matin : peu de lumière, pas de travail, pas de divertissement, pas de déplacement, le but étant de ne pas attirer les mauvais esprits. N’entendant pas bruits, les esprits malins iront hanter un autre endroit. Cette fête est précédée, la veille, par les processions des Ogoh-Ogoh. Ce sont des statues représentant d’efrroyables monstres destinées à être exhibées. A la nuit tombante, les Ogoh-Ogoh sont promenées à travers les villages et les villes, en faisant le plus de bruit possible afin d’effrayer les esprits malins. A l’issu de la procession, les statues sont brûlées.

Restaurant/Beach Club: le KU DE TA

Just close your eyes and imagine.. You are on a comfortable couch lying in the sun which is slowly going down in the sky. The colours are changing, becoming warmer and softer at the same time. You can hear the slight sound of the waves together with the inspiring lounge music mixed by a DJ. It is getting darker and the place is full of candles everywhere.. you are sipping a mojito .. Simply magical and entrancing !
One of the best place in Bali to enjoy a sunset. We didn’t eat there but just enjoyed a drink at sunset. One of the most enjoyable experience. We highly recommend it.

Don’t arrive too late if you really want to enjoy the sunset on one of these couches facing the sea.

Fermez les yeux et imaginez.. Vous êtes allongé sur un confortable lit de plage. Le soleil descend doucement dans le ciel. Les couleurs changent .. Vous vous laissez bercer par le bruit délicat des vagues mêlé au son de la musique lounge du DJ. La nuit tombe et les bougies envahissent le lieu. Vous vous laissez imprégné par la magie de l’endroit tout en dégustant un mojito.
Une experience unique et certainement un des meilleurs endroits pour profiter du coucher de soleil à Bali.
Nous n’avons pas eu l’occasion de dîner sur place mais avons dégusté de délicieux mojitos.

VISITE : forêt des Singes à Ubud.
Incontournable , pour petits et grands .
Situé non loin du centre d Ubud , cette réserve naturelle se visite à pied à la découverte d une végétation dense , de temples …et de singes .
En effet , de nombreux singes (macaques crabiers) évoluent en toute liberté dans ce sanctuaire .
Peu sauvages , ils n hésiteront pas à monter sur vous à la moindre vision de bananes ,voire à vous faire les poches ou filer avec vos lunettes de soleil .. !!
Quel plaisir de se poser en les regardant vivre , se chamailler ,observer une mère portant son petit ,les voir jouer avec un bout de bois…
Afin d avoir un succès fou , n oubliez pas d acheter des bananes , vendues à l entrée …
Eclats de rire garantis !!

Monkey Forest Sanctuary
Situated close to Ubud center ,though a popular tourist attraction, it is undeniably a place to visit in the cultural capital of Bali.
We really liked it.
First , we were inspired by the meditative aspect of the forest , probably because of the temples and the lush tropical vegetation surrounding us.
We also had great fun with the numerous monkeys walking here and there, sunbathing, playing all through the complex.
Even if going through their territory may provock them thinking we were trying to invade their home ,we went into the depth of the woods.
How funny !Mind your bag,sunglasses,jewels !!!
Monkeys are so clever and are used to interacting with tourists.
Feeding them with a few bananas that we bought at the entrance of the sanctuary, we had a lot of success.We were followed by bunches of monkeys who, for some of them, didn t hesitate to climb on us !!
Really a great time for children but also for adults !!

Situé sur Jalan Petitenget à 5 minutes de la villa, SARDINE nous fut conseillé par plusieurs amis..
Après un bel accueil, nous avons pris un verre dans un sofa blanc confortable avec une vue sur une superbe rizière..quel cadre splendide!
Service impeccable ensuite à table, une cuisson des poissons parfaite pour finir sur un fondant au chocolat délicieux .
Décoration sobre et efficace, aérée ..
Si vous aimez le poisson (produits frais sélectionnés par le chef directement sur le marché de Jimbaran) alors ce restaurant est un incontournable de Seminyak..
Comptez IDR 450 000 pour une entrée, plat, dessert et un verre de vin

This restaurant is situated 5 minutes from the villa and we have heard good comments on it especially by a few friends of us.
After a warm welcome, we were proposed to have a drink on a terrace overlooking the rice paddy field. What a wonderful view !
The lunch was really pleasant : nice and very professional staff, healthy and excellent food (fresh fish from Jimbaran market selected by the chef himself). The chocolate fondant was also marvellous.
If you like fish, this is definitely the restaurant to go to. It is a must try.
