Bali Island is best known for its amazing Hindu culture, beaches, bars, resorts and shopping. Yet less than a century ago Bali was far less inhabited, had virtually no roads, and all the tiny villages were hewn from the thick, almost impenetrable jungle – home to wild tigers, clouded leopards and poisonous snakes.
