Its rawness, with spectacular rice terraces and markets filled with fascinating but weird smells. Most of all we were drawn to the Balinese people and their culture. Also helping coming from Adelaide was the consistency of good weather and our love to feel warm favoured Bali as a regular holiday destination. Bali was a good escape from our winters. Post a stint of not visiting Bali (10 years), for
many reasons the tragic Bali bombings slowed us, but mostly we were busy working and being parents with a home loan. We returned in 2011, and fell in love all over again. Whilst Bali and their people had evolved, Bali still felt right to us. Stepping off the plane, walking across the tarmac and suck in the smell of clover cigarettes, It didn’t take long to settle right back into, ‘Bali Time.’
So this got us thinking, how can we spend more time in Bali? As were getting older, our goal was to skip as much of the Adelaide winters as possible. Our daughter now a young adult and we are creeping closer towards retirement. We felt the time was right and started to map out our goal. The idea needed some justification, one way we thought we had, was to start our own holiday villa business. We specifically were looking for a great location. Somewhere close to the action but tucked away. Within easy reach of the good cafés - we’re coffee lovers, bars and nightlife. We wanted to keep it small & personal, work with a local team and manage it ourselves. During our research faze, we spoke with other villa owners, agents and expats. We got the ins and outs about the advantages and potential risks. Taking approximately 2 years of researching, we finally took the plunge. That thus was born Villa Indy, Seminyak. Villa Indy ticks all the boxes. Great location, close to the action, but tucked away. Near to good cafés & bars and Oh! We’ve found that great coffee spot - revolver. We’re working with a small local team and we are managing it ourselves. So now the true test to our goal is, making sure our guests who stay at Villa Indy, are well looked after and hopefully fall in love with Bali as we did, Oh and justifiably spend more time in Bali.
