'Ter-teran Fire wars Usaba Muu-Muu Desa Adat Jasri'
The ter-teran tradition is a tradition of the people of Jasri Village, Karangasem District, Karangasem Regency, Bali which is carried out within the framework of Usaba Muu-Muu which is celebrated every 2 years, namely in odd years when it is Pengrupukan or Tawur Kesanga (the day before Nyepi). At this time the community is carrying out rituals which aim to expel bhuta kala (evil spirits) so that the world becomes calm and serene.
Ter-teran or also known as the tradition of fire fighting uses tools in the form of torches and prakpak, namely a flame made of tied dry coconut leaves and filled with a stick or small wood inside so that the throwing range is farther. Besides that, terrence is closely related to the pratima "pemendak" (welcoming) ceremony that comes from the mesucian (cleaning) on Jasri beach.
In this tradition, the krama (community members) are divided into 2 groups, namely the Jasri Kaler (north) and Jasri Kelod (south) community groups. The two groups threw torches and prakpak at each other. If Jasri Kelod residents throw fire at the Jasri Kaja group, then Jasri Kaja will throw fire back at the Jasri Kelod group. And so on so that the fire war takes place lively The meaning of this tradition is to expel Bhuta Kala to return to their respective places so as not to disturb the peace of Bhuana Agung (universe) and Bhuana Alit (human life).
