Bali’s issues with waste management are no secret. It is an issue that affects local residents, tourists, and, of course, the environment too.

Over the last decade, the situation has largely gone from bad to worse, but local leaders have worked to implement new solutions. Many of these solutions have had an impact, but with the sheer scale of the problem, more needs to be done.

The Bali Provincial Government has just signed a new partnership that is set to change the way in which waste is managed across the island.

While for many aspiring holidaymakers, digital nomads, and ex-pats, Bali conjured images of pristine white sandy beaches and vast expanses of terraced rice paddies backed by dense jungles; the reality in many areas is little different.

Over the last decade, it has become ever more apparent that as the open landfills become fuller and localized waste management operations are put under more pressure, more and more trash has been filling waterways and is being dumped in unofficial landfill sites, often on the edges of some of Bali’s most beautiful natural landscapes.

Environmental NGOs like Mudfish No Plastic and Sungai Watch have gone to great lengths to tackle illegal landfills and beach plastic and create new systems to recycle and repurpose inorganic waste.

Now, the Bali Provincial Government has partnered with a Chinese environmental development company to implement large-scale solutions to Bali’s waste management woes.

CN Weiming is dedicated to “proving first-rate technologies, products, and services for environmental protection of society.” They believe in creating “clean, healthy, and sustainable living environments for human beings.”

The new partnership was signed off by the Acting Governor of Bali, Sang Made Mahendra Jaya, who gave his backing to the USD 225 million investment from CN Weiming.

In a meeting held in Denpasar on Saturday 7th, September, a top executives from CN Weiming met with the Bali Provincial Government to seal the deal on the multi-million dollar initiative.

This is not the first project Weiming is operating in Indonesia, the company is also developing a highly contentious ‘high-nickel matte nickel-containing metal’ project in Maluku Province.

CN Weiming has outlined a waste treatment plant that will completely change the way in which waste is managed across the island.

Starting at 1,500 tons of waste per day in the first phase and moving to 2,250 in the second phase, CN Weiming was committed to constructing a waste power plant in Bali to China’s AAA standards.

Speaking to reporters following the signing of the agreement, the President of Weiming Environment Protection Group, WuLiang Cheng, said, “This waste treatment project uses the BOO (Build-Operate-Own) model with a franchise period of 40 years. After the franchise period ends, the project assets remain the property of Weiming Environmental Protection.”

Initial plans suggest that the new project will be based at the Temesi TPA in Gianyar Regency, a central location to one day manage the majority of Bali’s inorganic waste.

At present, Temesi TPA receives around four tonnes of waste per day, whereas the largest landfill in Bali, the Suwung TPA, receives upwards of 200 truckloads of mixed waste per day.

The waste incineration technology used by CN Weiming produces high-temperature flue gas to produce steam and, in most cases, drive power plants. The exhaust gas is purified and disposed of in accordance with China’s AAA standards.

The pollution associated with the waste management plant, in addition to the lasting impact of what will be a major construction effort, will be a huge cause of concern for many residents in Bali.

CN Weiming is one of the world’s leading waste management solution providers, the company explains they “[own] more than 100 patents in waste incineration boiler, flue and gas cleaning facilities, automation control, sewage leachate treatment, kitchen waste treatment, and other fields, Weiming ranks the first enterprises to have independent patents in waste incineration power generation technology.”

In explaining the waste treatment system they have created, the company explains, “Flue gas discharge is above the national standard, and dioxin content is also above the EU standard. With automatic online monitoring and networking with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, real-time flue gas discharge monitoring is therefore achieved.”

Adding “Discharge of wastewater, waste gas, and industrial residue must comply with national environment protection regulations. Slag shall be reused in brick-making or roadbed laying. Fly ash can be stabilized before it ends up in a landfill. Landfill leachate, after being treated, can be taken into municipal pipe network or directly recycled.”

Following the signing of the initial agreement, Acting Governor Jaya received a Letter of Intent from the CN Wieming President WuLiang Cheng as the first step in this cooperation. Further details are expected by the end of the year.

During a visit to Bali last week the Indonesian Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan ordered the Bali Provincial Government to explore the development of refuse-derived fuel as an alternate waste management solution in the region.

The behavior of Russian tourists in Bali makes their heads shake. He ate at a restaurant, but it was his turn to pay, he didn't want to. He was also deported from Bali.
Gorbunov Dmitrii (39), a Russian citizen (WN), was expelled from Bali. Dmitrii was deported because he did not pay for food at the restaurant.
Not only that, he also made a fuss at the restaurant.
Dmitrii was also deported from Bali.

"The Russian citizen has been deported on September 9, 2024," said the Head of the Denpasar Immigration Detention House Gede Dudy Duwita in his statement, Tuesday (10/9/2024).
Dudy said Dmitrii came to Indonesia on August 3, 2024.
He is equipped with a visit permit visa for travel that is valid until September 1, 2024.

Instead of a vacation, Dmitrii made a trum during his stay in Bali. He was reluctant to pay for food and made a fuss in front of a restaurant in the South Kuta area.
"For his action, Dmitrii was secured by a member of Satpol PP Badung BKO South Kuta District and recommended him to the Special Class I Immigration Office of TPI Ngurah Rai," said Dudy.
Dmitrii has now been deported from Bali. His name is also included in the list of people by Immigration.

Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Bali Pramella Yunidar Pasaribu said that the deportation was an effort to maintain security and order in Bali. Therefore, he hopes that all foreigners will comply with the rules that apply in Indonesia.
"At the same time ensuring that Bali remains a safe and orderly destination for all visitors who comply with the rules," said Pramella.

Bali’s Acting Governor, Sang Made Mahendra Jaya, has spoken to reporters about possible solutions for tourism tax evaders.

Back in February, the Bali Tourism Tax Levy was introduced in the province, but so far, only 40% of visitors have been making the mandatory contribution.

The IDR 150,000 Bali Tourism Tax Levy fee is to be paid by all international tourists before leaving the island.

The fee is payable online, on the LoveBali app, and at dedicated counters at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Some major hotels and travel agents are also able to assist with payment. The fee must be paid via a credit or debit card, and tourists will be issued with a QR-code voucher that they must keep available to show Tourism Task Force officers if they are stopped at a spot check.

The fee was created to help fund the development of tourism infrastructure and, most importantly, fund the preservation of Balinese culture and the natural heritage of the province.

The fee is only applicable to Bali province; tourists only visiting destinations like Jakarta, Yogjakarta, Lombok, or Sumba, for example, are not required to pay the contribution.

The fee has been in effect for seven months, and the amount of funds generated has been markedly lower than what provincial leaders had been budgeting to raise.

With no fines or serious punishment written into the legislation to combat those who are either intentionally or accidentally avoiding the fee, up to 60% of eligible tourism taxpayers have not been paying their way.

The Acting Governor of Bali, Sang Made Mahendra Jaya, is proposing a series of sanctions for those who are found not to have paid their fees.

He spoke to the press on Saturday 7th, September after a meeting with the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI).

He explained, “If there are no sanctions, no, we can’t do anything if they don’t pay. In the future, there will be sanctions with a minimum penalty of ten times (the tourism tax fee) or a week of imprisonment; they must pay.”

He added, “because if the rules do not have sanctions, it is considered trivial, so I hope to the friends here at HIPMI who are sitting in the council to speed up the revisions of the regulations on the collection of foreign tourists [taxes].”

Acting Governor Jaya acknowledged that the process for tourists paying their taxes does need to be improved and that simply “closing the door” on those who have not paid by the time they arrive at Bali Airport would not be a viable solution either.

Jaya noted, “The trial time for overseas flights is [on average] five to six hours; how many hours have they spending the VoA queue, then immigration, then customs, now the Bali Tourism Office? How many hours do they have to queue at the airport?”

The Acting Governor feels that implementing punishments for not paying will encourage tourists to ensure they have paid their fees, but in their own time, whether before, during, or just before departure.

He wants to make sure it is easier for tourists to pay their fees at their hotels, hostels, villas, resorts, or guesthouses.

Acting Governor Jaya said, “When the tourist arrives at the hotel, they can be asked whether the fee has been paid or not, but this is a heavy [ask] because there is not an incentive for them [the hotel], therefore HIPMI can accelerate the revision of the guest fee, I pray there are incentives to help the levy, and there are sanctions.”

Acting Governor Jaya, like many political and tourism leaders in Bali, wants to see more ‘high quality’ and high-spending tourists arrive in Bali to support more culturally respectful and sustainable tourism.

Well good people it appears to have ended as quickly as it started.

Just when we was having fun too.

After speaking to our legal team it appears this is a new modern day Indonesian scam. A fake profile decides to attack a successful company with lies in a public forum. They hope we will panic and contact them where then they will demand money for them to stop.

As we know it's fake as all the information provided is not only lies but factually wrong we chose to meet them head on and keep it public by asking them to come with their friend and lawyers to our office.

This seemed to make them angry to the point where they threatened to be coming to us with Indonesias most well known lawyers. Thinking this would scare us once again.

Giving the fact that these lawyers will charge around 100 mil IDR just to start a case we laughed. As they said they wanted 30 million back. The maths don't make sense. There's nothing like dumb criminals.

After that they must of worked out that we aren't as dumb as them and they have now blocked our personal fb pages and the Bali Legals page.

This isn't the first time people have tried to attack us, impersonate us, report us, defame us etc and it probably won't be the last as we are a high profile company and I guess it comes with the territory as being Bali's number one consultants, but here we are.

Riza Stranger is even suggesting to pay police to commit an illegal act to try to obtain false funds. This is the level of mentality of these people trying to quote the law in this group.

And finally to all the people who jumped on the bandwagon making comments about us in that group, you all must be feeling pretty foolish about yourselves right now. How easily you are fooled by a fake fb profile. Clearly you all aren't as smart as you try to make out you are. Hang your heads in shame.

Justice prevails once again people.

Have a great day everyone. We will 😍😍😍

Again more lies. 😂😀😂

Our owner doesn't meet with clients and the kitas he has isn't for meeting for companies.

This on done by our lawyers and directors.

They must pay us 10 million per year to report taxes??? 😂😂😂

That's done by accountants. We don't report taxes.

Some person called Riza who lives in Sri Lanka has the immigration officers details who are involved. Visas are issued online from Jakarta and Sri Lankan people cannot get a visa for Indonesia unless they marry an Indonesian person.😂😂😂

Accountant fees start from 1.5 mil per month depending on the size of the company.

We give our work to other agents too it seems. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

All we ask is for proof of any of these claims.

The fun goes on.

Well people it's happening again. 😂😂😂

Some clown with what appears to be a fake profile is trying to discredit us in a Bali private group.

Obviously it's a fake profile so we can't prosecute them under ITE laws or why would they hide?

My friend this blah blah blah.

Saying we have blocked them also???😂😂

Our office doors, email and phone lines are never blocked.

Someone saying get a lawyer. Yes please get a lawyer and come to our office and meet our lawyers.

We will also be meeting with our legal team tomorrow morning to see if the admins of this page can be charged under ITE laws for allowing fake posts about our company.

Also when we set up companies it's up to the client to open their own bank accounts and if required we recommend companies for virtual offices.

Also we have never charged 30 million for a PMA set up. Again fake!!!

We smell BS of the highest level here people. 💩💩💩

This comes with the territory of being a successful company.

We are a high profile company on the island and people are obviously jealous.

Whoever you are please contact us to make an appointment with our legal team.

You know where our office is as you clearly stated so put your money where your mouth is.

We will wait to hear from you and your "friend" 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Good news. Please ged rid of these dodgy investor kitas people.

A Canadian citizen (WN), JGC, was deported from Bali. He was expelled to his country because he lived in an address that did not match his visa until he fought and threatened the officers when his travel documents were detained.
"JGC was deported on September 6, 2024 with the final destination of Toronto, Canada," said the Head of the Immigration Detention House (Rudenim) Denpasar, Gede Dudy Duwita in his statement, Saturday (9/7/2024).
Dudy said JGC landed in Indonesia since October
2020. At that time, he only had a tourist visa. A year later, in February 2021, he and his five friends founded a company called PT BKG. He acts as an investor in the company.

Since then, JGC has mutated his visa to become an investor. Then, he returned to visit Indonesia and extended the validity period of his Kitas for the second time. This time, he acted as a consultant at PT BKG.
"The company that turned out to be fictitious is engaged in consulting, graphic design, retail, and photography," said Dudy.

Three years later, immigration issued a call to JGC regarding the supervision of its activities while in Bali.
The summons were made on January 11, 2024 and March 4, 2024. However, JGC failed.
During that time, JGC often moved. At first, he lived in a rented villa on Mertanadi Street, Bali, with his girlfriend,
A. In March 2024, JGC moved to a new address without reporting to immigration or other authorities.
JGC reasoned that the residence was temporary. He relied on personal savings and support from his girlfriend during his life in Ball.
"JGC moved to a new address without reporting on the grounds that the residence is temporary," he said.
The officer then traced the location of the PT BKG office based on the address listed. However, the address is fake. The officer then continued his investigation. This time, targeting someone with the initials FADA who acts as the guarantor of JGC and his girlfriend.
From there, the fact that PT BKG does not pay taxes is obtained. Meanwhile, from his girlfriend, the fact that JGC also marketed a villa in Bali. Faced with a series of violations, JGC still snarts that the office address is legal and does not violate the rules, because it is officially registered in the company documents.

He also brags by saying that his girlfriend wants to control his assets.
"At the end of July 2024, JGC behaved uncooperatively during field supervision. He had threatened, resisted, and obstructed the act of holding travel documents," he said.
JGC was finally deported and his name was proposed to be included in the deterrence list.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐟 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐢 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐠?

One of the most common when visiting Bali is canang or sesajen. Canang is usually placed or presented in various places, ranging from the front of the house to tourist areas or attractions.
Canang is the simplest form of offering performed by Balinese Hindus. Canang is used as a form of gratitude for Sang Hyang Widhi for peace in the world.

Canang is part of the Balinese Hindu religious ritual used to worship Ida Sang Hyang Widhi. Canang is presented every day, usually in the morning around 06.00 WITA and in the evening.

Canang is placed in certain locations, especially in places that are considered sacred according to the belief of the Balinese Hindu community. Other than in the Temple or Sanggah, canang can also be placed inside the house, on the side of the road, or in the yard.

The main function of canang is as a means of offering in various Balinese Hindu religious ceremonies, such as when the full moon, tumpek, tilem, fencing love, and kajeng kliwon. Canang is also often offered on major Hindu holidays.

On major holidays that occur every six months, such as Galungan, Pagerwesi, and Kuningan, canang acts as part of other services, such as banten sodan or banten gebogan. Canang is usually placed at the top of the offering and presented in a pret.

So, what if a tourist accidentally steps on a canang?
Basically, there is no certain sanction if you accidentally step on a canang in Bali. Balinese people will generally understand that tourists may not always be familiar with local customs and culture.

However, if someone deliberately steps on or breaks the canang on purpose, the situation can become more complicated. This kind of action not only offends the feelings of the local community, but can also damage relations with local residents.

Although legally there are no sanctions for acts of damaging canang, but the act of deliberately damaging canang is believed to cause disaster.

𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐑𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐚-𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐢 𝐅𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒

A new direct Moscow-Bali flight service is set to launch on 17th September.

Since borders reopened after pandemic lockdowns, there have been no direct flight services from Russia to Bali.

All that is about to change with Russian airline Aeroflot set to launch a new service this month.

Rumors circulating online have been substantiated by the General Manager of Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Handy Heryudhitiawan.

He confirmed that officials from the airport are working with the airline to prepare for the launch of a new service.

Speaking to reporters, Heryudhitiawan explained, “Until now, we continue to communicate with various parties regarding the Aeroflot flight plan with the Moscow-Bali route.”

He added, “Operationally, of course, we are ready to accept airlines with any route as long as they have met the regulatory requirements such as slot approval, flight permit, and technical and administrative readiness that must be met.”

Heryudhitiawan noted that Russian passport holders’ demand for travel to Bali continues to grow.

He revealed, “Until July, based on the crossing data that we obtained from Immigration, 95,911 foreigners from Russia entered Bali Island via international flights.”

The addition of the Moscow-Bali route will join the existing weekly flight operations of 36 international flight routes served by 39 airlines and 22 domestic flight routes served by 11 airlines.

The flight schedule from Moscow to Bali is set to operate every Tuesday and Saturday. The outbound service is set to depart Sheremetyevo Alexander S Airport. Pushkin Moscow at 14.40 local time and arrive at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport the following morning at 08.05 WITA.

The return service will depart from Denpasar every Wednesday and Sunday, departing at 10.05 WITA with flight number SU 0297. The return service will arrive at Sheremetyevo Alexander S Airport. Pushkin at 17.55 local time. As of 3rd October, the flight schedule is set to increase to three times weekly.

Bali Airport is on track to see its busiest year on record. Ahead of the Africa-Indonesian Forum, the Minister of Law and Human Rights, Supratman Andi Agtas, visited Bali Airport to ensure all operations were running smoothly for tourists, travelers, and special delegations.

Russian airlines have been limited in their flight operation options due to Western sanctions imposed in late 2022.

Before the pandemic, Aeroflot Group was operating regular flights to Bali. Speaking to the media in July, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, explained, “Direct flights between cities in Indonesia and Russia will undoubtedly ease efforts to increase tourist visits and aid the flow of export and import logistics.”

With the launch of a new direct flight service from Russia to Bali and a new Consulate General for the Russian Federation set to open in Bali in late 2024 too, the relationship between the two destinations appears to be strengthening.
