Remembering The Sullivan Brothers at Trafrask Pier along The Beara Peninsula in County Cork.

The Sullivan brothers were five brothers from Waterloo, Iowa who served together on the light cruiser USS Juneau. They were all killed in action when Juneau served in the Naval battle of Guadalcanal, November 13th, 1942.

Their descendants were emigrants from Adrigole in West Cork, who had fled the famine.

After the death of the Sullivans - a new policy, called the 'Sole Survivor Rule' was brought in to stop just such a terrible tragedy from happening again - to safeguard families from facing multiple losses.

Gorumna Island is in Connamara on the west coast of Ireland and is well known for its wild and natural beauty. It is linked to the mainland and other islands by a series of bridges and causeways.

Around every corner are fantastic views of mountains, oceans and coastal inlets.

The area abounds with holy wells, narrow roads, stone walls and flora and fauna such as fuchsia, blackberry and heather.

A gem on the Wild Atlantic Way.

Toured the quiet country roads on The Beara Peninsula along The Wild Atlantic Way over the last few days.

Hiked part of The Kerry Way between Kenmare and Sneem along Gortamullin Hill and climbed in The Caha Mountains to visit the ancient Drombohilly Stone Circle.

We drove the coastal road and the scenic drive along The Healy Pass. The Beara Peninsula offers lots to see and do in the great outdoors.

Chairman’s Lane, Kinsale, County Cork.

Chairman's Lane is so called because when the captains of ships came into port, and tied up at the quayside, they were carried up this very street in a chair. The captains then got tipped out of their chairs and had to pay their taxes. They walked back to their ships.

A street of quaint cottages and larger houses which lead up to Desmond Castle. The tiny cottages have names such as The Mansion House, The Pilot's House and The Giant’s House which is said to have been home to Kinsale’s own giant, Patrick Cotter O’Brien who stood at 8 feet 3 inches!!

Galway Hookers at Spanish Arch, Galway City recently.

The Galway ho**er (Irish: húicéir) is a traditional fishing boat used in Galway Bay off the west coast of Ireland. The ho**er was developed for the strong seas there and traditionally, the boat is black and the sails are a dark red-brown.
