Over the weekend, we lost a dear neighbour and friend. Pat had been caring for our garden at Irrus ever since we began welcoming guests.
He never said “no” to a cup of tea (and a few biscuits or slice of cake😉), and once the lawn was mowed, he’d settle into long conversations with us - chatting about politics, his travels, or his yearly pilgrimages to Medjugorje.
He loved his community, his Irish music, his ride-on mower and his honey! We had brought him some special jars on our last visit - he didn’t get the chance to collect them, so we kept them aside, ready for the next time we’d see him.
Pat was a gentle man. Always positive, never a bad word to say about anyone. Even when health challenges came his way, he didn’t let them stop him. He just kept going - gardening, helping neighbours, and lifting spirits with his quiet resilience.
Pat, we will miss you deeply. On behalf of ourselves and every guest who has admired the garden you so lovingly tended - thank you. But more than that, thank you for your time, your stories, your wisdom, and your kindness.
We know you wouldn’t have wanted a fuss - but you truly deserve the spotlight.
Rest peacefully, Pat.
