🎶Singer/Songwriter Mick Hanly teams up with Moving Hearts band members, Anto Drennan and Eoghan O’Neill for an intimate show this Friday, Sept.6 in The Greyhound Bar Kilkee🎶

Mick Hanly is regarded as one of Ireland’s best songwriters, and his songs have been covered by well-known performers such as, Mary Black, Christy Moore and Dolores Keane. His song “Past The Point of Rescue“ went to No2. in the American Country charts for singer Hal Ketchum and has earned him the BMI award for 2 million radio plays in the US.
🎸The guitar skills of Anto Drennan are widely sought after by such luminaries as Mike & The Mechanics, The Corrs, Clannad & Paul Brady, etc. Eoghan O’Neill is also in the same league. Founding member of Moving Hearts, he has toured with Chris Rea, Riverdance (Musical director), and Celtic Woman. Mick provides the stories and songs in his own inimitable style. The wonderful Aran Islands are a true Irish heritage experience, where locals speak the Irish language (as well as English), against the backdrop of impressive scenery. Guests at Irrus can access the islands with the ferry from Doolin village, 70km’s away. The nearest island “Inisheer“ is only a 15 minute ferry ride from the pier at Doolin village. The ferry company Doolin Ferry Co services all the islands a few times daily (https://doolinferry.com/aran-islands-ferry-sailing-times). Here are a few ideas for a trip to the Aran islands:
- Combine your ferry trip to the Aran islands with a trip along the County Clare coastline to see the Cliffs of Moher (also with Doolin Ferries)
- Enjoy the 15-minute ferry ride from Doolin to Inis Oírr (Inisheer), rent bicycles, visit The Plassey Shipwreck, O’Briens castle ruins, Inis Oírr lighthouse, have a picnic on the beach or lunch in one of the local pubs
- Inis Meáin (Inishmaan) is the middle of the three Aran Islands, and a beautiful tranquil island with fewer tourists. Enjoy the island‘s long sandy beach, rock pools you can swim in, stone forts, craft shop and pub serving delicious food. If you are into culture, visit the Synge museum and the Harry Clarke stained glass windows in the local church. With a little planning ahead you can book a guided folklore and foraging wildflower nature walk with “Bláthanna Fiáine“.

- Inis Mór (Inishmore) is 35 minutes by ferry from Doolin and the largest of the islands. Visit the World Heritage site Dún Aonghasa (set on a dramatic 300ft. cliff edge), the Black Fort, Poll na bPéist (The Wormhole swimming pool) and Kilmurvey beach. The Oscar nominated film “The Banshees of Inisherin” was also filmed on Inishmore.
After your trip:
When you get back to Doolin and if you have some time left, take a dip in a seaweed bath across the harbour from Doolin pier with “Wild Atlantic Seaweed Baths” (https://wildatlanticseaweedbaths.com/product/doolin-harbour/). Dine out in one of Doolin’s great restaurants - the Oar Restaurant Doolin

Book stores like Banner Books and The Salmon Bookshop & Literary Centre, as well as Pot Duggan’s have events such as author talks, workshops, poetry readings and live music. If you’re a book lover come along to explore the many booksellers with stalls and pop-up shops in the town. Lots of eateries and galleries and independent shops are open too!

September Sailing Schedule Update:
From Sunday 1st September the sailings from Killimer Co Clare to Tarbert Co Kerry will be every hour on the hour from 7am to 8pm and from Tarbert Co Kerry to Killimer Co Clare every hour on the half hour from 7.30am to 8.30pm. Sunday Sailings commence 2 hours later.
In addition our 2nd ferry will remain in service until Monday 30th September providing sailing every half an hour between 9.30am and 6pm.

We often have visits from in Rhinevilla Bay, directly in front of our property. Please have a read of this advice from our friends at Seal Rescue Ireland, in case you see a seal in distress!

🚨ATTENTION🚨: Grey Seal Pup Alert! (Please Share!)

Grey Seal Pupping Season runs from late August/Early September & throughout the winter months. Help us to protect our nursing Grey Seals & their pups!

**If you are out on beaches over the coming months, please watch for our flippered friends in distress!**

Remember:

👉Do not put the seal in the water. (Injured, sick & newborn pups are on land to rest, recover & grow - Grey Seal Pups with white lanugo coats like the one above cannot swim yet due to the weight of their fur!)
👉Do not touch pups: Seals are wild animals and WILL bite if stressed, human presence may lead to mothers abandoning otherwise healthy pups
👉 Do not disturb seals: Watch from a distance; 100-200 meters is advised! If a mother is close by watching, she may abandon her pup out of fear, if people are close to her pup.
👉Mothers leave their young on land, this is normal: Grey seal pups have white fur for the first 3 weeks and need to stay on land until they moult. Their white coat is too heavy to swim with. It is normal for the mother to leave them alone for 3-4 hours, she will return to nurse them if they are left undisturbed
👉Keep dogs on a lead and children at a distance for their safety.
👉Take photos - but please keep your distance: Photos are always helpful as they allow us to determine an animal's condition immediately, and if necessary, a rescue can be organised promptly
👉 Contact us for advice! If a pup is on its own with no mum in sight; obviously injured, or if you are unsure, please ring Seal Rescue Ireland for help and advice on 087 1955 393

A pup's best chance of survival is with their mum. While we can provide care for these pups nothing compares to a mother caring for & nursing her & providing that essential high fat content milk which is packed full of important antibodies that supports their immune system. You can help us to reduce the number of orphaned Grey pups by sharing this important information!
