Christmas can be a difficult time for many of us, especially if there is an empty chair filled with memories of a loved one no longer with us...

If Christmas is hard,
If you’ve lost someone dear.
Just look in your heart,
And you’ll know they’re still here.

The star in the sky,
The light falling snow
The robin outside,
It seems like they know.

If this is a time,
When you’re struggling through.
Just do what you can,
For what matters, is you.

There’s no need to be merry,
There’s no need to bright.
Just do what you can,
It will all be alright.

This was a fantastic year for new Businesses and Economic Opportunity in Omeath...

In 2024 we welcome the completion of the Village Realm Programme along the Shore, and the commencement of Narrow Water Bridge...

2 new businesses opened on Station Road, Radiant Beauty Omeath and Lodge a subsiduty of Free2byogi and what a sucess it has been as highlighted in the attached review https://1drv.ms/w/s!AmPP6yhz1cDHgzDgL5_QlHvhyCYk?e=Exbrfq

And along the Greenway the newly opened Tain Cafe Bar opened its doors for refreshments.

And three existing premises reopened under new management and brought a vibrancy back to the village, Cornamucklagh House,
Grand Central Hotel Omeath and Nicos Takeaway

Old memories of Omeath.....

Hands up who remembers going on the 'ferry' across Carlingford Lough from Warrenpoint to Omeath? This used to be a popular Sunday afternoon trip with many driving down to Warrenpoint and travelling across. In what could be described as "rough" and holding on for all you were worth the boat often got tossed about by cross winds and a fairly high sea, fair dues the boats would never leave if it was really bad but there were a few close calls. The Sunday night "pub specials" were a sight to behold, with a boat full of drunks hitting the shore (or the breakwater if the tide was out) late in the evening after an afternoons drinking in Omeath. On more than one occasion a few people ended up phoning for a taxi to come from the ‘Point’ to lift them, as they had missed the last boat home, making it an expensive day out. A lot of smuggling took place but it was the "not-for-profit" kind, just stuff to be used for oneself and family...things used to be considerably cheaper over the border. No life jackets either you just piled in and enjoyed the crossing. Here we have Julia Hamilton from Lurgan with sons Alan and John about to make the journey back in 1963. Thanks to Alan Hamilton for sharing.
