Sandyford Little Theatre was founded in 1934. We produce plays that make people smile & think. We are at present welcoming new membership.

In the past decade a reinvigorated Sandyford Little Theatre Company has emerged as one of the leading players in the local theatre scene. Striving for excellence in all aspects of our productions, we are noted for our high standards both in artistic and technical areas. Fit-Up theatre was a regular feature of social life in Ireland in the 1930′s with up to 50 companies on the road at the height of their popularity. At a time when people were preoccupied with rationing and the ‘Emergency’ the arrival of the Fit-Ups brought welcome distraction as a well as entertainment to many a small town. In 1934, a travelling theatre company arrived in Stepaside Village at the end of a long season on the road. One of the group, Mike O’Grady, remained behind and formed the Sandyford Little Theatre. Other founder members were Mick Doyle, Bridie Doherty, Anna Doherty and Charlie Rourke. The Sandyford Library, Lambs Cross, became the regular venue for their productions.

Sandyford Little Theatre will be performing A Christmas Carol radio play in the dlr Mill Theatre Studio on the week 4th-8th December. It was originally performed by Orson Welles & Lionel Barrymore & others on the 23rd December 1938 as part of the Campbell Playhouse series.
We will be doing first readings / auditions this Thursday 28th in St Tiernan's Community School from 8pm. We'll most likely have a follow-up auditions/call-backs on Tuesday 3rd (but please come on the 28th first).

Sandyford Little Theatre are happy to recommend the upcoming production by DLR Mill Theatre of 'The Gallant John-Joe' by Tom McIntyre from 21st-30th September in the DLR Mill Theatre, and 4th-6th October in Townhall, Cavan.

In 2002, the play won The Irish Times/ ESB Irish Theatre Best New Play Award, and this new production will star five times Irish Times Theatre Awards nominee, Malcolm Adams, in the titular role.

The Playwright, Tom MacIntyre, was widely recognised as ground-breaking for his ability to push the boundaries for actors, stage and audience. This will be the first production of 'The Gallant John-Joe' since MacIntyre’s death in 2019.

Tomorrow night (Wed 7th June) at 7.30pm we will have a reading of An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde in the dlr Mill Theatre Studio, with a view to putting this on stage in late August. Come along if you can!
