One of the many favourite stops on our tour of Cong is outside my Grandfather's shop "P. McHugh" on the main street in Cong village. The house adjoining the shop was orignally my grandparent's home and later my parent's home. I loved growing up in the heart of the village and I love sharing stories of my childhood in Cong and my family history. Check out the video of my father Ray and uncle Peter sharing stories of my Grandfather's hardware and grocery shop along with stories of the famous McHugh's Canteen.

Yesterday's group are getting behind my father Ray McHugh for Mayor of the Parish. A great charity event to raise money for our local club The Neale GAA. Every Wednesday I head into Ballinrobe to grab lunch with my father Ray at my uncle Peter's canteen. McHugh's Canteen was started back in 1952 by my grandfather Peter McHugh and and is run today by my uncle Peter. They have been serving the best tea and freshly made sandwiches in Ireland for over 60 years. 👑

The autumn rains have brought with them the river in The Pigeon Hole Cave. It adds a little bit more magic to a very beautiful part of Cong. This river is one of the many underground rivers that flows beneath the Cong area connecting Lough Mask to Lough Corrib.
The salmon must know the fishing season on the rivers is closed.
