Kathleen Curran grew up on College Road in Galway city. In 1938 she began work as a clerk typist with the Galway Harbour Commissioner. In1951 she was picked to be harbour master temporarily and she stayed in that role until 1953. She's credited as being Ireland's first female harbour master.
