Visit Holycross Holycross is a very special and sacred place where you can walk in the footsteps of ancient Monks. Visit the restored 12th century Holycross Abbey

Holycross Community Network has been developed to improve the visitors experience in our village and enhance our Facilities to the community. We aim to increase visitor numbers and become an integral part of the visitor network in Tipperary while developing our existing natural and heritage resources. And as a local support group to co-operate and co-ordinate with surrounding communities to advertise events.

Due to the current dangerous condition of the roads, footpaths and Holycross Abbey and Ballycahill church grounds, our Mass today for the Feast of the Epiphany at 11am will be online only at https://www.churchservices.tv/holycrossabbey. There will be no Mass this evening in Ballycahill. The Abbey and Ballycahill church will remain closed to the public until conditions improve.

THE AWAKENING OF THE ABBEY: An ideal Christmas Present! As we approach the 50th Anniversary of the re-opening of Holycross Abbey, an updated print of Willie Hayes’ book on the history & restoration of the Abbey is now available in Holycross Abbey Gift Shop. Phone 0504-43124 or email [email protected]. Opening Hours Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm & Sunday 11.30am to 5pm (closed for lunch 1pm to 1.30pm). Closed Christmas Eve 24th December, re-opens on Sundays only in January.

The Village Market Holycross Christmas Fair
You are all invited 🎅🏼 Our fun, family centered, community Christmas market is on Dec 14th, 12 noon to 3pm in St Michael's Community Centre.
So much happening, enjoy complimentary mulled wine on arrival, hamper raffels & festive music. Children & parents can see Santa's Sleigh arrive , meet & chat to Santa & Mrs Clause from 1 to 2.30pm. Choose from 30 traders, some unique gifts and festive home bakes, wreaths, plants, honey, art, pictures, fresh veg & check out student enterprises.
Its also an opportunity to support this years worthy, local charity St Vincent de Paul with a Christmas Wish Ribbon for the tree.
Enjoy delicious hot chocolate & a tasty hot lunch💚🤍

Christmas Bauble Competition: Lovely memories were made on Sunday in Holycross Abbey when we were joined by local children who had designed beautiful baubles to be displayed on their own special tree. The morning was absolutely magical. Congratulations to all the children and to our winner who got to turn on the Christmas lights in the Abbey with Fr. Celsus.

Unveiling of the Bust of William (Willie) Hayes at Holycross Abbey: The community is warmly invited to join us at Holycross Abbey as we honour the extraordinary contribution of Willie Hayes to the restoration of the Abbey with the unveiling of a specially commissioned Bust. This momentous occasion celebrates the lasting legacy of a beloved individual whose life and work left an indelible mark on Holycross Abbey. The event promises to be a poignant and joyous gathering, attended by family, friends, community and admirers of Willie Hayes. Mass will commence at 3.15pm on Sunday 8th December and will be followed by the unveiling of the Bust. Followed by light refreshments and treats in the Holycross Community Hall. We invite everyone to this important acknowledgement of Willie’s valuable work and contribution to our community of Holycross Ballycahill.

On stage will be the Wheel of Fortune and outside, the Auction with lots of great quality timber and other goods. The canteen will be open for teas. AUCTION & SALE OF WORK—SUNDAY 24th NOVEMBER: At 2pm in Holycross Community Centre. Raffle tickets are currently on sale with excellent prizes. Stalls on the day include Home Baking, Books, Lucky Dip, Lucky Square, Gifts, Lucky Dip & Tuck Shop. On stage will be the Wheel of Fortune and outside, the Auction with lots of great quality timber and other goods. The canteen will be open for teas. Your support for this event is very important as all proceeds go to Holycross and Ballycahill National Schools and Community Centres. We would be grateful for any of the following: home baking, books, groceries, alcohol, soft drinks, baskets, unused electrical items and other goods suitable for the Wheel of Fortune and Auction. These can be dropped to either of the National Schools or the Parish Office, to the Community Centre on Saturday between 4pm and 6pm or Sunday from 9.30am or call 0504-43124 to arrange collection. All donations and support will be much appreciated.

The Village Market Christmas Markets 30th Nov & 14th Dec.
On Sat 30th we support Down Syndrome Tipperary who will receive proceeds from the slate workshop, market raffle and voluntary donations.
It will be festive on Sat Nov 30th from 12 to 3pm, in St Michael's Community Centre. We are excited to get the Christmas season started. Its a full house of traders, providing delicious cakes and bakes to candles, knitted items, jewelry, soap , flowers, veg, shrubs and much much more. You're sure to pick up a present or two to tick off the list. We are adding more seating, relax for a coffee and a chat. Raffles and prizes galore.
There is a wonderful opportunity to learn slate craft at Richie's Slate Art Workshop which is open to both children and adults. Proceeds to Down Syndrome Tipperary Meitheal 21. Early booking advised, contact Richie on 0872165436 [email protected]

Holycross Abbey Spectacular Christmas Bauble Design Competition: A Chance for Local Children to Light Up our Landmark! The Abbey is kicking off the Christmas season with a competition to highlight the talent and creativity thriving within our community. Aimed at the children of our parish our “Design Your Festive Bauble” competition offers an exclusive opportunity for one lucky winner to switch on Holycross Abbey Christmas tree lights alongside Fr Celsus.
Do you have a budding artist or a creative young mind in your family? Here’s how to get involved: The competition starts Fri 1st Nov and runs until 3pm Fri 30th Nov 2024. To enter, create a festive bauble, Use paint, markers, glitter, paper, cardboard or anything you like. Once your design is complete, snap a photo of your masterpiece and send a photo to our team at [email protected]. Please include your child’s name and age, so we can identify all participants.
After 11am Mass on the 1st December, every entrant will decorate The Holycross Abbey Children’s Christmas tree. Once the Tree is decorated, the lucky winner will be announced & will officially switch on All Abbey Christmas tree lights with Fr Celsus. This will be followed by Refreshments & the giving of Selection boxes to all entrants in The Dormitory Upstairs.

The Village Market Holycross "Pumpkin Fest": on Sat Oct 26th from 12 to 3pm, in St Michael's Community Centre. A real family fun, community event, so children can get their costumes on to join us for Trick & Treat throughout the market. With entertainment and lots of shenanigans, it's fun for all. Children can enter our big prize competitions by taking along a carved pumpkin on the day, recycled bits n bobs can be used to enter the Scarecrow Competition by making a scarecrow for display in the village in that competition. There is also a wonderful opportunity to create your very own flower arrangement with Oliva's workshop for Breast Cancer.
Talented students bring beads, crafts and treats. Regular and new traders have so much to choose from across 30 stalls. Max's Italian street food was a big hit in Sept and he joins us for the rest of the year. Admission is free and we look forward to seeing you all.
